Illinois Circuit Clerks are essential to the operation of the judicial system. As constitutional officers of the judicial branch, they serve as the official custodians of the court record while also managing caseflow, financial operations, and public access to court services. From the first “counter encounter” with the public to the final disposition of a case, the Clerk’s Office helps ensure efficiency, accuracy, and due process.
Clerks support judges, maintain records across all case types, process filings and appeals, and serve as a key reporting hub for state agencies. They are also responsible for the collection and disbursement of significant public funds and the issuance of official court documents.

Across all 102 counties, Circuit Clerks play a vital role in maintaining a transparent, accountable, and accessible court system for the people of Illinois.
