Traffic Stop on Interstate 80 Leads to Drug-Impaired Driving Arrest and Seizure of Narcotics and Weapons

On June 6, 2026, at approximately 11:58 p.m., a York County Sheriff’s Office K9 sergeant initiated a traffic stop on a sport utility vehicle traveling on Interstate 80 near mile marker 348 for a moving violation.

During the course of the traffic stop, the sergeant observed signs of impairment from the driver and initiated a driving under the influence (DUI) investigation. During the encounter, the driver also failed to disclose the presence of a loaded, concealed handgun inside the vehicle.

The investigation led to the development of probable cause to search the vehicle. As a result of the search, deputies located and seized a significant quantity of illegal substances and weapons, including:
• A loaded handgun
• A loaded revolver
• Over 400 THC v**e cartridges
• Over a pound of THC wax
• Over 150 pre-rolled ma*****na joints
• Over 100 THC-infused gummies
• Multiple knives

The driver later participated in a drug influence evaluation. A certified Drug Recognition Expert determined the driver was impaired by drugs and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle.

The driver was identified as Kevin Anderson, 49, of Havelock, North Carolina. Anderson was taken into custody and lodged at the York County Jail.

Anderson has been charged with the following offenses:
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession with Intent to Deliver
• Possession of Ma*****na Over One Pound
• No Drug Tax Stamp
• DUI – Drugs, 1st Offense
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon Without Disclosure to Law Enforcement
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon While Under the Influence
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The York County Sheriff’s Office proudly participated in the statewide “Make It Click” overtime traffic enforcement campaign from May 15 through May 31, 2026. This initiative focused on increasing seatbelt usage and promoting safe driving behavior across Nebraska roadways.

During the campaign period, deputies assigned to the grant made a total of 154 traffic contacts. These enforcement efforts resulted in one arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) and two drug influence evaluations. Deputies also issued 49 total citations, including 26 for speeding violations.

Seatbelt enforcement remained a primary focus throughout the campaign. Deputies cited eight drivers for failing to wear a seatbelt, a simple but critical safety measure that significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Additionally, two drivers were cited for failing to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle, a violation that endangers first responders and roadside workers.

The York County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that wearing a seatbelt is one of the easiest and most effective ways to save lives. Deputies encourage all motorists and passengers to buckle up every trip, every time.

A recent article highlighted the record number of children entering the court system in York County and the growing need for advocates to support them.

While these cases often happen behind the scenes, we are proud of the work our deputies do every day to investigate child abuse and neglect, protect vulnerable children, and hold offenders accountable.

These are some of the most difficult cases we handle, but they are also among the most important. Thank you to our deputies and all of our community partners who work tirelessly to help keep the children of York County safe.

The York County Sheriff’s Office stands with the Papillion Police Department following the events that unfolded Friday night.

While we are thankful that no law enforcement officers were physically injured, incidents such as these serve as a reminder of the risks officers face every day. In a matter of seconds, routine patrol duties can turn into life-threatening situations requiring courage, professionalism, and split-second decision making.

Our thoughts are with the officers involved, their families, department leadership, dispatchers, and all those affected by this incident. We know that even when everyone goes home physically unharmed, these events can have a lasting impact.

Law enforcement agencies across Nebraska are one family. When one department faces a critical incident, we all stand beside them.

Police responded this evening to a report of shots fired in the Tara Plaza area of Papillion. After leaving the area, the suspect was located by officers and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended in the Home Depot parking lot near 84th Street and Cornhusker Road.

During the incident, officers were fired upon and returned fire. The suspect sustained critical injuries and was transported to the nearest trauma center for treatment.

No officers were injured, and the situation has been contained. There is currently no ongoing threat to the public.

Officers from the Papillion Police Department, La Vista Police Department, and the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office were involved in the incident.

The investigation is being conducted by the Sarpy County Force Investigation Team and will continue throughout the evening. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

🐈‍⬛ CAT Team West Activation 🐈‍⬛

We’ve learned a lot from our friends at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (NE) and their Community Action Team.

Most importantly: if your traffic stop starts with driving 20+ mph over the speed limit through a construction zone, continues with a suspended license, and ends with drug paraphernalia in plain view… there’s a pretty good chance a tow truck is about to become involved.

This traffic stop near McCool Junction checked all three boxes.

The vehicle was removed from the roadway and enforcement action was taken.

CAT Team West remains committed to keeping York County roads safe one traffic stop at a time.

On 05/10/2026 at approximately 2:32 am, a sergeant with our office conducted a traffic stop on North Lincoln Avenue near 19th Street in York.

During the traffic stop, the sergeant developed reasonable articulable suspicion that criminal activity was afoot and deployed his police service dog, Justice, around the exterior of the vehicle. Justice indicated to the presence of the odor of a trained illegal narcotic coming from inside the vehicle.

A probable cause search was conducted and methamphetamine was located.

The driver, Michael Sacca of Waverly, NE, was booked into York County Corrections for the following charge:

• Possession of a controlled substance (28-416)

These highly trained K9s are certified to detect ma*****na, methamphetamine, co***ne, he**in, and fentanyl — helping deputies proactively remove dangerous narcotics from our communities.

Having narcotics detection K9s as part of our team gives deputies another valuable tool to help keep illegal drugs off our streets, support investigations, and enhance public safety throughout York County. Their abilities assist in everything from traffic interdiction and criminal investigations to locating hidden narcotics that may otherwise go undetected.

We’re proud of the hard work and dedication shown by both our handlers and K9s during this certification process.
