📱🚿 Some Things Can Wait Until You’re Parked.

During the late hours of 09/01/2026, one of our deputies was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 near mile marker 355 when he noticed the driver of a semi in the neighboring lane with a cell phone directly in front of them.

Normally, seeing a phone in front of a driver is concerning enough.

This one was on FaceTime.

And the person on the other end was a n**e man taking a shower.

Yes. You read that correctly.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop, and the driver was cited for careless driving, TV in view of driver, and driving left of center.

We’re not sure what was more concerning — a distracted driver operating a semi at interstate speeds, or the possibility of an innocent family passing by and their 7-year-old looking out the window at exactly the wrong moment.

Parents already have enough difficult questions to answer. “Why is that naked man showering on the truck driver’s phone?” shouldn’t have to be one of them.

All jokes aside, operating a commercial vehicle while watching a video call is incredibly dangerous. A moment of distraction behind the wheel of a semi can change someone’s life forever.

So please: Eyes on the road. Keep the FaceTime appropriate. And if somebody needs you to virtually supervise their shower… pull over first. 🚔

Last night, the H&H Bearcats took a moment before kickoff to recognize local first responders during the National Anthem as our community reflected on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

We’re grateful to the H&H Bearcats for honoring the men and women who serve our communities and for remembering the first responders and innocent lives lost on 9/11.

The evening was also a special one for our office, as one of our newest Deputy, Deputy Garner, attended his first public event while on duty with the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you to H&H for the recognition, the hospitality, and for continuing to support those who serve. 🇺🇸

We understand that it’s York Fest and you want to get to the festivities, but driving 62 mph in a 35 mph zone is a good way to risk not making it there. It’s best to be late than to crash and risk your safety.

Watch your speed. Wear your seatbelt. And get a designated driver if you’re partaking in alcoholic beverages.

On 08/30/2026, a deputy with our office conducted a traffic stop near the 2100 block of South Lincoln Avenue for a vehicle defect violation.

During the stop, the deputy observed multiple indicators of impairment. A subsequent search was conducted which revealed a loose Hydrocodone pill, a class II controlled substance, and ma*****na. The driver was then arrested and transported to our office.

Once at our office, the driver underwent a drug influence evaluation by a certified drug recognition expert who opined that the driver was under the combined influence of alcohol, a narcotic analgesic, and cannabis and not able to operate a vehicle safely.

The driver, Brooke L. Turner of York, NE, was arrested and lodged at York County Corrections for the following charges:

• Possession of a controlled substance (28-416)
• Driving under the influence - drugs - 2nd offense (60-6,196)
• Possession of ma*****na less than 1 oz

This serves as another good reminder that just because medication is prescribed does not mean that you should operate heavy machinery while under the influence. You also should always be careful when combining certain prescription medications with alcohol.

It is also important to not use prescription medication once the script has expired.

Deputies Respond to Armed Domestic Disturbance in McCool Junction

Early this morning, York County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence in McCool Junction after receiving a report of an armed domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies established a secure perimeter, safely evacuated a juvenile from the residence, and began issuing commands for the remaining occupants to exit.

After the female victim exited the residence, deputies attempted to take the male suspect into custody. The suspect resisted, attempted to close the door on deputies as they entered, and struck a deputy in the face with the door, causing injury. A physical altercation followed before the suspect was taken into custody. Both the deputy and suspect sustained minor injuries.

A search warrant was later executed at the residence, where deputies located several fi****ms, including a handgun, revolver, shotgun, and rifle.

Max E. Rea, 70, of McCool Junction, was arrested and lodged in the York County Jail for terrorist threats, child abuse, use of a firearm to commit a felony, resisting arrest, assault of a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer.

We would like to thank the Nebraska State Patrol, McCool Junction Volunteer Fire Department, and York Fire Department for their assistance on scene.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

On 08/20/2026 at approximately 2028 hours, a deputy with our office conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue in York, NE for a non-moving violation.

During the stop, the deputy searched the vehicle and located a 4.5 inch fixed blade knife. A records check was conducted which revealed that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing such knife.

The driver, Wendy A. Nagle of Stromsburg, NE, was arrested and lodged at York County Corrections for the following charge:

• Possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person (28-1206)

Our deputies continue to strictly enforce a zero-tolerance approach to impaired driving throughout York County.

Recently, we’ve seen an uptick in alcohol-related DUI arrests. The message is simple: If you’ve been drinking, don’t drive. Plan ahead, find a sober ride, or stay where you are.

We also encourage motorists to help us keep our roads safe. If you observe unusual or potentially impaired driving behavior—swerving, inconsistent speeds, driving off the roadway, nearly striking other vehicles, or other concerning behavior—call it in.

Your call could prevent a crash, serious injury, or save a life.

On 08/25/2026 at approximately 11:25 pm, one of our deputies was conducting routine patrol when he observed a vehicle traveling westbound on gravel roads leaving York. Once the deputy caught up to the vehicle, the deputy observed the vehicle get stuck in the mud on a minimum maintenance road.

Our deputy then got out to offer assistance to the driver and observed the driver to display multiple indicators of impairment. A preliminary breath test was conducted and the driver supplied a breath sample that was over 3 times the legal limit of alcohol.

The driver, Scott M. Velasquez-Lopez (25) of York, NE, was arrested and lodged at York County Corrections for the following charge:

• Driving under the influence - alcohol - 3rd offense (60-6,196)
