ELS is back and ready for the New Year!

Nowadays it can be difficult to network safely, but we’ve got you covered — and this is NOT your grandma's networking event. Join the Emerging Leaders Society on Zoom as we think critically, test your memory, and get to know our community and fellow ELS members. After some quick brain games, we’ll have three rounds of small-group virtual conversations.

Bring your energy and get ready to be engaged!

It's week! Will you give, advocate or volunteer in support of ALICE and our neighbors struggling to make ends meet?

Now through Saturday, share a photo of your participation, and tag United Way of York County.

12/02/2020

In York County, 32% of households are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) — working hard, but living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make ends meet.

Next week, from December 6-12, join Emerging Leaders Society in supporting United Way of York County partner agencies who directly serve ALICE.

Check out our flyer of ideas for giving, advocating, or volunteering, and choose the one that's right for you and your family — or create your own! Share a photo on social media with the hashtag , and tag United Way of York County.

Learn more from Bryce in the video, and download the flyer at www.unitedway-york.org/els.

A huge thank-you to Community Progress Council for facilitating our “On the Edge” virtual poverty simulation. Attendees gained an awareness as to some of the harsh realities of what it means to live in poverty and the tough decisions that have to be made every day.

If you missed us (or were able to join and want to learn more!), you can try the simulation yourself to see if you can beat the odds and make ends meet: http://playspent.org/html/.

Thanks again to CPC for facilitating and all that you do for our community. Keep an eye out for information on Emerging Leaders Society's winter engagement project coming soon!

Have you registered for our virtual poverty simulation next week?

Guided by Community Progress Council, participants will experience the challenges of poverty, and better understand how United Way works to improve the education, health, and financial stability of every person in York County.

For ALICE and those living in poverty, this is life On The Edge:

🟡 The difficult decision to pay your utility bills in full, or set aside a portion for your child's 6th birthday.

🟠 The hope when you secure a better-paying job... and the panic when your car again refuses to start, and you're late for your first shift.

🔴 The struggle to stay afloat, and the unease of living paycheck to paycheck, with no safety net for times of crisis.

Join us on November 11. This virtual event is FREE via Zoom, but registration is required. RSVP at http://bit.ly/ELS-PovertySimulation.
