If your travel plans were interrupted by the sobriety checkpoint hosted by York County Regional Police Dept. along S. Queen Street in York Township on Friday, August 28, rest assured it was for good reason.

EIGHT impaired drivers were removed from the roadway making it safer for you and everyone else to arrive alive. Think about it - you were sharing the road with an impaired driver!

This checkpoint, just like every other sobriety checkpoint, was scheduled at this location because it is a high-incidence roadway for impaired driver related crashes and fatalities. The Center for Traffic Safety does not randomly choose sites; each is thoroughly justified by data.

So the next time you happen upon the inconvenience of a sobriety checkpoint, please remember this - it is there to save your life - or, if you're impaired, it's there to save you from taking a life.

Instead of being irritated, take a breath and consider thanking the officers who stand on that line on a roadway that they know is especially dangerous.

Great work York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services!

York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services was dispatched at 4:22 this afternoon to the intersection of N Pine St and Port Ave for a residential structure fire. Engine 99-1 arrived in under 2 minutes and confirmed a working fire with multiple entrapments.

Firefighters successfully rescued a woman and her son from the 2nd floor via ground ladder. Firefighters, York City Police Department (York, Pa), and neighbors were also able to rescue a dog from the rear of the house using the short roof and another ground ladder.

The kitchen fire was quickly extinguished whilst these rescues were occurring simultaneously.

The family was sleeping and was alerted to the fire by smoke detectors.
