FREE PUPPIES at the firehouse!
Ok…now that we have your attention…there’s no free puppies. But, we do have an important public safety reminder to share.
We are STILL receiving phone calls directly to the firehouse requesting our services. It is imperative to understand that there is a good chance the phone will go unanswered due to the staff being out of the station. This could be problematic. And if you leave a voicemail (yes, that happens), it may go unchecked for longer than it takes your smoking wall outlet to turn into a full blown house fire.
York Dispatch is staffed 24/7 with at least two highly trained, very polite dispatchers to answer the phones. They can either be reached by dialing 911 or 207-363-4444.
So, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.
If you smell gas, call 911.
If your elderly neighbor has fallen in their driveway, call 911.
If your carbon monoxide detector is beeping, call 911.
If your neighbor’s house is on fire, call 911.
If you have fallen in your garage and broken your leg and are home alone with three young children, don’t call your firefighter husband, call 911.
If you have an unknown wire hanging in your driveway, call 911.
If your snowblower is tired from all the snow this season and is now leaking gasoline, call 911.
If your basement is full of water, call 911.
If you’re heading to Portsmouth for a hot date and you think you left your outdoor grill on, call 911.
You get the point.
Listen, we get it. Our on-duty career staff are working all by themselves while the call-force members are at home with their families enjoying a bowl of ice cream watching Season 1 of Marshals, and they could probably use someone to talk to. It’s better to keep them company when you DON’T need their help though.
Funny story, we just got done approving the graphics package for our new Engine 2 and elected to forego the Dial 911 decal because after all, it is 2026 and 911 has been a thing since the early 1990’s. Don’t make us call the graphics guy back.
In all seriousness though, we want you to get the help you need as fast as possible. So please, utilize the system that is in place 24/7.
Oh, and sorry about the puppies.
