Join us in welcoming our five newest YPD Officers who all graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy yesterday!

They’ve been working hard at the academy since January, and they’ll spend the next few weeks at our Training Division learning the basics specific to Yonkers before jumping into our Field Training Program.

We had a great time at the Rosemarie Ann Siragusa School Field Day, where students got an up-close look at some of the technology we use to keep our community safe!

In partnership with Westchester Drone Ops, our team conducted a drone demonstration, giving students the chance to see a police drone in action and learn how drones are used to support public safety and emergency response.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and staff for the warm welcome and for making us part of such a fun day. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with our youngest community members, answer their questions, and share a little bit about the work we do each day.

Over the past two months, members of the Yonkers Police Department have had the privilege of participating in Youth Police Initiative (YPI) programs at Yonkers High School and Gorton High School, organized by our Community Affairs Division.

YPI is designed to build bridges between law enforcement and young people through open communication, team-building exercises, role-playing scenarios, and honest discussions about life choices. These interactive sessions encourage participants to challenge perceptions, build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop a greater understanding of one another.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Yonkers High School Principal Dr. Sandy Hattar and Gorton High School Principal Jamie Morales for their support of this program and for welcoming us into their schools. Opportunities like these allow officers and students to engage in meaningful dialogue, build trust, and strengthen the relationships that help make our community stronger.

Thank you to all of the students who participated and shared their perspectives throughout the program. Strong communities are built through relationships, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to connect with the next generation!

The Yonkers Police Department is attempting to locate 81-year-old Luis Machado. Luis is 5’7" and was last seen in the area of Fr Finian Sullivan Drive today wearing blue pants, a white shirt, blue hat, and sneakers.

The Yonkers Police Department's Missing Persons Unit is actively investigating this incident. If you see Luis, please contact us immediately at 914-377-7900.
