Children will also be able to enjoy a miniature town where they can “drive” around the streets and walk along the sidewalks with crosswalks, stop signs, and traffic signals.

🚔 THURSDAY RUNDOWN

Keeping the Village Safe & Moving!

It’s time for our weekly look at what the team has been up to. From handling local "traffic jams" to making some four-legged friends, your officers have been busy ensuring Yellow Springs stays the wonderful place it is.

📊 BY THE NUMBERS

• Calls for Service: 407
• Extra Patrols: 91
• Business Checks: 82
• Community Policing: 18

🌟 WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

• Sign-on-the-Move: A local bus had a slight disagreement with a stop sign at Corry and Dayton Streets this week. The sign lost the battle, but our officers stepped in to set up a temporary replacement and safely transported the old one for "retirement" at the farm.

• Safety First: We’ve been responding to several calls for extra patrol near our local schools and businesses. Whether it's helping a shop owner secure a stubborn door lock or keeping an eye on school drop-off zones, we’re happy to provide that extra peace of mind.

• Community Helpers: Our officers checked in on a few homes while owners were away, including one where a helpful gardener noticed an open door. We’re glad to report everything checked out okay! We also assisted with various calls ranging from reported gas smells (confirmed and handled by the FD) to minor car fires with no injuries.

• A Furry Visitor: The highlight of our week at dispatch was a temporary guest, a very polite black and white Corgi! After hanging out with us for a bit, he was successfully reunited with his owner, who was working nearby.

• Friendly Reminders: We’ve had a few calls regarding lost items at local wellness centers and parks. If you've left a bike behind recently, be sure to check in with the location before it heads off to the donation bin!

Stay safe, Yellow Springs! If you see us out and about, don't forget to wave! 👋

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

As we observe National Police Week, held this year from May 10–16, 2026, and especially Peace Officers Memorial Day on Friday, May 15, please join me in taking a moment to sincerely thank each of our YSPD officers for their dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to serving our community.
