Candidates night tonight, thank you to all those that participated! Video of the debates will be available to view on the YS Community Access page on YouTube.
Here was my speech, essentially:
Thank you to the James Mckee Association for sponsoring these important events and opportunities for community engagement, to Mr. Jerry Sutton for graciously moderating, to my opponent Benjamin Crandall, and to all of you in the audience both in person and at home (I watched the school board candidates last night from the comfort of my couch, thanks to technology). As well as everyone who has been so supportive of me thus far.
Last year, I was encouraged by several members of the community to look into the FO job, when it became known that Margaret Silliman intended to retire after her 24 years of dedicated service.
I will give you a brief intro about me and my qualifications, but Iām mostly highlighting the responses that I already submitted to the League of Womens Voters guide as well as what will be published in the special YS News insert about the candidates.
Born and raised in Yellow Springs, I'm very proud to call this place home and have worked and served here in various capacities throughout my life, now raising my son Zander here.
For the past 10 years, I have been part-time bookkeeping for many local organizations, often simultaneously, including: Yellow Springs News, Glen Helen, the YS Senior Center, Little Art Theatre, Home, Inc, First Presbyterian Church of YS, and Community Children's Center.
I have shadowed the current Fiscal Officer, toured the facility, engaged in conversations with each of the currently serving Township Trustees, and attended several public Township meetings. I feel I've developed a good sense of how to best execute the fiduciary responsibilities that are required of this position.
With a wealth of experience assisting in external audits, and operating payroll systems for so many local organizations, I feel uniquely suited for the Fiscal Officer role of the Township. I have proved trustworthy, dependable, and have shown a commitment to detail while carrying out these previous roles.
If elected, I will welcome suggestions from community members, encourage more involvement, and strive for complete transparency in budgeting and financial reporting. My main goal is to be a good steward of the township resources and I feel this would be a symbiotic fit.
This job start date is April of 2024 so if elected, I anticipate spending the next several months familiarizing myself with the software, the budget, chart of accounts, webinar training, and working more closely with Township to learn the ropes.
