While we are in Back to School season, much of the focus has been on younger students but we should be looking at college-age students as well. Many of these young men and women are going to be on their own for the first time, in charge of their own sleep, nutrition and overall health.

Tip of the Day from the DCHD don't skip breakfast!

📚 Late nights. Busy schedules. Endless snack runs.

Sound familiar? While college is all about independence, it's also a great opportunity to invest in your health. Skip the breakfast-skipping habit, stay hydrated, create a routine, and don't overlook your campus health center. Your future self will thank you.

🎒 New School Year, Fewer First-Day Fears

Back-to-school jitters are normal. Help your child feel more confident with these simple steps:

Tip of the Day from the DCHD!

👂 Listen to their worries and let them know their feelings are valid.
💡 Work together on solutions to specific concerns.
⏰ Restart school-day sleep and morning routines early.
👕 Offer small choices, such as picking an outfit or special breakfast.
💪 Remind them of their strengths and past successes.
😌 Model calm, positive ways to manage your own stress.

If anxiety becomes overwhelming or interferes with daily life, reach out to your child’s school, healthcare provider or a mental health professional for support.

A little preparation and reassurance can help make the transition smoother for everyone!

Doing Our Part to Bring Free Mammogram Screenings to Women Today! 💗

Today, the Delaware County Health Department is partnering with the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Jefferson to provide free mammogram screenings at our Yeadon Wellness Center.

Early detection can save lives, and events like this help make essential breast cancer screening more accessible to women in our community, regardless of whether they have health insurance.

We are proud to work with our healthcare partners to remove barriers, promote early detection and help Delaware County residents take an important step toward protecting their health.

Thank you to everyone helping make today’s screening event possible! 💕

🎒 Back-to-school season is the perfect time to make sure your child’s vaccinations are up to date!

Vaccines help protect students, teachers and families from serious illnesses, including measles, a highly contagious disease that can spread quickly among people who are not protected.

Tip of the Day from the DCHD!

Children are recommended to receive two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, with the second dose typically given before school entry. Check your child’s vaccination records and talk with a healthcare provider about any vaccines they may need.

Need help finding a vaccination provider? Call the Delaware County Health Department’s Wellness Line at 484-276-2100.

Start the school year protected, prepared and ready to learn! 🍎📚
