Special Film Screening: Salt Marsh by Tom Bell

Join us on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:30 p.m. in Lewis Hall for a special screening of Salt Marsh, a documentary by Yarmouth filmmaker Tom Bell.

Filmed over the course of three winters at the Spear Farm Estuary Preserve along the Royal River in Yarmouth, Salt Marsh is a lyrical exploration of the stark beauty of the landscape through the reflections and artwork of local artist Mitchell Rasor. The 15-minute film offers an intimate portrait of both artist and place, accompanied by a haunting original score composed by Lee Ranaldo, co-founder of the influential rock band Sonic Youth.

Following the screening, Mitchell Rasor will present an artist's talk.

This event is free and open to the public. Learn more at: https://yarmouthlibrary.org/event/special-film-screening-salt-marsh-a-film-by-tom-bell

Yarmouth History Center Spring 2026 Lecture Series: Shipwrecks of Casco Bay

Seth Goldstein has been fascinated by shipwrecks since his childhood. Seth shares tales of harrowing rescues and tragic losses in and around Casco Bay. In addition to hearing about the bay’s famous shipwrecks such as the Annie C. Maguire and the Bohemian, learn about some of the region’s lesser-known wrecks and the circumstances surrounding them. You’ll be fascinated by Seth’s recounting of horrific storms and lives lost to the sea as well as stories of inspiring rescues and the brave men that conducted them.

Around 1908, the Yarmouth High School football team gathered for a photograph on its home field. Visible in the background is the Weston House on West Elm Street, now numbered 142. An 1899 Portland Daily Press article described the Yarmouth squad as “one of the strongest teams in this vicinity".

As part of a continuing series, the Yarmouth History Center has provided the Town of Yarmouth with photographs and information about local historical landmarks and events.
