YPD wishes our colleagues at Falmouth Regional Communications Center a happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!

Every call matters. Every voice matters. And behind every emergency response is a dedicated professional who listens, assesses, and acts with unwavering focus.

This week, we honor National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week — a time to recognize the critical role dispatchers and 911 professionals play in protecting our communities.

These individuals are the calm in the storm, the steady voices guiding people through their most difficult moments. They gather vital information, coordinate rapid responses, and provide life-saving instructions — often while managing multiple high-stress situations at once.

Their work requires exceptional skill, resilience, empathy, and split-second decision-making. While they may not always be seen on the front lines, they are an essential link in every emergency response.

To all public safety telecommunicators: your dedication does not go unnoticed. Your impact is immeasurable, and your commitment helps save lives every single day.

Thank you for your service, your strength, and your unwavering professionalism!

Today, we gathered at the Public Safety Building to celebrate two incredible partners whose service, dedication, and loyalty have left a lasting mark on this department and our community—Officer Joshua Robinson and K9 Matrix.

Officer Robinson began his career in public safety in 2002 with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer. That same year, he answered another call to serve by joining the Maine Army National Guard, where he spent nine years, including a deployment to Iraq from 2002 to 2005. His commitment to serving others has been a constant throughout his life.

In 2006, he brought that same dedication to the Yarmouth Police Department, where he has spent the past 20 years protecting and serving this community. Along the way, he has taken on many roles—patrol officer, lead fi****ms instructor, Taser instructor, and use of force instructor—quietly shaping the department and mentoring those around him.

In 2017, he became the department’s second K9 handler, beginning a truly special partnership with K9 Matrix. For the past nine years, the two have worked side by side, building a bond that goes far beyond the job. K9 Matrix, a 10-year-old Belgian Malinois trained in patrol work and narcotics detection, has been a loyal and fearless partner, always ready to work and always by his handler’s side.

Together, they have answered countless calls, tracked suspects, located missing people, and made our community safer. But beyond the calls and statistics, what stands out most is their unwavering commitment to each other and to the people they served.

It’s never easy to say goodbye to those who have given so much of themselves to this profession. Officer Robinson and K9 Matrix, your dedication, sacrifice, and quiet professionalism have made a difference in ways that can’t always be measured, but will always be felt.

As you both begin your well-earned retirement, we hope you take with you a deep sense of pride in all that you’ve accomplished. Thank you for your service, your partnership, and everything you’ve given to this department and community.

YPD won’t be the same without you—but you will always be part of this family.

*** COMMUNITY ALERT ***

The Yarmouth Police Department is investigating the placement of a skimming device on a point-of-service unit inside the Big Apple on Route 1.

The device, discovered by an employee, is believed to have been in place from midday Monday 3/23 through midday Wednesday 3/25. at this stage in the investigation, it is believed that the device was designed to be physically retrieved in order to collect any stolen data, and nothing was transmitted remotely before the skimmer was discovered.

That being said, if you made an electronic payment at the inside counter during the above times, you should consider reaching out to your financial institution and pay close attention to your statements.

Yarmouth PD has already notified numerous businesses in town of the discovery, and wants everyone to be aware of potential skimming devices.

Devices designed to steal personal information have been found all over the county and state, and it can happen inside or outside almost any type of store. If you suspect something, in Yarmouth or elsewhere, please bring your concerns to the attention of the business.

We applaud the Big Apple staff for their diligence and quick notification.

If anyone has any potential information regarding the skimming device, please contact Detective David Mulry at [email protected] or 207-846-3333.
