In case you missed it, Yardley Borough Council voted earlier this month to move trash days in 2026 to from Wednesdays & Saturdays to Tuesdays and Fridays starting January 6, 2026

We will have one more Saturday pickup this week, on January 3, 2026 before beginning the new schedule on Tuesday of next week

Here are the next few pickups:
• Saturday, January 3rd (Trash/Bulk Items)
• Tuesday, January 6th (Trash/Recycling)
• Friday, January 9th (Trash/Bulk Items)

⚠️ Another change that we made for 2026 is you will only receive one bill for your trash services instead of quarterly bills. These bills were mailed out in early December, so you should have already received it. There is a discount if you pay in full by January 31, 2026 (which we have always offered), but you can pay after January 31 and you will not receive late fees until October of 2026 — so you can pay in installments throughout the year if you need to do so. The only difference is you are responsible for keeping track, as you will not receive quarterly bills

‼️ Sending out one annual bill instead of quarterly bills will save the taxpayers of Yardley Borough roughly $5,000 in printing and postage costs, not to mention the cost of labor to prepare these mailings

If you’re like me and forget what day it is between Christmas and New Year’s: today is Sunday, and, to make things even more confusing, it’s trash night! 😂

This past Saturday’s trash pickup was delayed to Monday, December 29th due to the winter storm 🌨️

We will also have trash pickup on Wednesday, December 31st and Saturday, January 3, 2026 this week

After that, trash pickups will permanently shift to Tuesdays and Fridays for Yardley Borough residents starting January 6, 2026

Checked out the utility work being done on N. Main Street during my Christmas Day run 🏃‍♂️

We originally had planned to have Phase III of the sidewalk complete by the end of the year — and I was excited to have it happen before my term on Council came to an end. However, things don’t always go as planned — there has been a LOT of utility re-location that has had to take place before the sidewalk can go in.

We received word that we had been awarded a $1,031,451 grant for Phase III of the sidewalk (all the way to the Borough line at Dolington) shortly after I took office, in March of 2024. In May, the Public Works Committee of myself and Councilman Uri Feiner & David Appelbaum hit the streets over two days to meet the residents along the sidewalk route (photos included in this post). We met many wonderful people, some of whom I have kept in touch with the entire time I’ve served on Council. Everyone was excited about the sidewalk, and none of us thought that it would *still* be “coming soon” 19 months later.

I was not part of the Council who applied for the grant, and I won’t be part of the Council that sees the N. Main sidewalk completed, but I am honored to have played a role in the “long middle” of the process as we navigated red tape and setbacks to move us closer to something wonderful that will be enjoyed for generations.

From what I’ve been told, the roof on Borough Hall / the Police Station has been in need of replacement for over a decade. During my first year on council, I saw the “waterfall” in Sgt. Golden’s office and the strategically-placed buckets throughout the Yardley Borough Police Department. We began working on a strategy then — and this past summer, when I learned of mold growth throughout the building, we kicked our plans into high gear.

We had a backup plan of a low-interest loan in case the LSA grant did not come through, but it’s always better when we can get things done at little or no cost to the taxpayers.

The $214,901 grant will allow us to replace the roof, and there is enough funds in reserves for mold remediation once the roof is replaced. While a new council will finalize these decisions, as part of Yardley’s Public Works Team from 2024-2025, I am happy to say we have set the incoming 2026 council members up for success.

I joined state Sen. Steve Santarsiero and Yardley Borough Police Chief William J. Golden III outside Yardley Borough Hall to announce state LSA grant funding for the Yardley Borough Police Department – Roof Replacement.

Nearly two years ago, I visited the Yardley police station and saw firsthand the leaking roof. This funding will replace it entirely, giving our police officers a safe, reliable facility to continue serving our community.

Thanks to Yardley Borough Council President and Mayor-Elect Caroline Thompson, Mayor Chris Harding, all the members of Yardley Borough Council, and Borough Manager Paula Johnson for tenaciously advocating for their police department.

I will certainly miss serving the wonderful people of Yardley Borough!

Although Don Carlson, Councilman Jared Stump and Mayor Chris Harding will continue to serve us officially as elected officials until 1/5/2026 at aroouuund 7:30 PM, tonight is their last council meeting. Please join us as we recognize their incredible collective and individual contributions to our little, but great, town. There will be a dedicated agenda item for these recognitions at the beginning of our meeting for anyone who might like to briefly speak.

They will be missed deeply. 💙
