Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

This week, Caswell County Emergency Management assisted the Town of Yanceyville during a significant water system disruption. The town’s system lost pressure and was completely without water for several days.

Emergency Management assisted the town with coordinating multiple bottled water distribution centers and worked closely with our state partners to secure and deliver approximately 20 pallets of water. These supplies were distributed across four separate community events to ensure residents had access to essential resources.

An Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated for approximately 48 hours, allowing local partners to work side by side in a unified response effort to address challenges and meet operational objectives.

While the Town of Yanceyville served as the lead agency for this incident, we are grateful for the collaboration and dedication of all our local and state partners who stepped up to support the community. Through strong partnerships and coordinated response efforts, we were able to help ensure the well-being of town residents during this difficult time.
