September 11, 2001

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were taken that day. We remember the families, friends and communities forever changed by their loss.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs and other first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away. We remember the military members who answered the call in the years that followed. We remember the ordinary people who made extraordinary choices to help a stranger, guide someone to safety, give blood, open their doors or simply stand beside someone who was hurting.

And we remember those who survived, carrying the physical and invisible scars of that day.

September 11 changed our country. But it also revealed something enduring about the human spirit: courage in the face of fear, compassion in the face of tragedy, and an extraordinary willingness to help one another.

Today, we honor the fallen.
We celebrate the heroes.
We hold space for the families who still grieve.
And we remember.

Twenty-five years. Always remembered. Never forgotten.

If you would like to honor the memory of those lost and help preserve their stories for generations to come, consider supporting the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Its work ensures that the stories of sacrifice, service, resilience and hope are never forgotten.

What does “United” mean to you?

For us, it means people coming together to make a difference that no one person, organization or business could make alone.

For decades, United Way Central Washington has been gathering people, resources and ideas to strengthen our communities and improve lives. Together, our community has reinvested more than $67 million in Central Washington.

That number represents so much more than dollars.

🏡 It represents families supported.
✨ Opportunities created.
🤝 Neighbors helping neighbors.
💡 Problems addressed together.
❤️ And people choosing to invest in the place they call home.

Because when we come together, generosity becomes impact. 🙌

So tell us: What does “United” mean to you?

📊 Our State of ALICE data paints a sobering picture of financial hardship in Washington.

In 2024, 37% of Washington households, more than 1.1 million families, lived below the ALICE Threshold, meaning they couldn't afford the basic costs of housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology.

ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are hardworking households earning above the federal poverty level, yet still struggling to make ends meet.

At United Way Central Washington, we are committed to advancing solutions that help families build financial stability and create stronger, more resilient communities.

💗 Run for the love of books. Run for the love of children. Run to honor a legacy. 💗

This October, United Way of Central Washington is celebrating Dolly Parton and her incredible legacy of making sure every child has the opportunity to grow up with books, imagination, and possibility. 📚✨

The Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has put millions of books into the hands of children around the world, inspiring a lifelong love of reading and reminding us that something as simple as a book can open an entire world.

Our Dolly Day 5K is a celebration of that legacy—and an opportunity for our community to come together around the belief that every child deserves a strong start.

📚✨Honor Dolly’s legacy by helping a child imagine what’s possible. ✨📚

For many years, United Way of Central Washington was truly honored to serve as the local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, bringing the gift of a new book each month to children and families throughout Central Washington.

Dolly understood the extraordinary power of a child opening a book and discovering a world of possibility. Her vision has inspired generations of children to read, dream, imagine, and believe in what could be.

As Dolly’s family has requested, we invite our community to honor Dolly’s life and legacy with a gift to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. ❤️

A donation in her honor is more than a tribute—it is a way to help carry forward the work she cared so deeply about and ensure that children continue to experience the joy and possibility that comes with a book in their hands.

Today, we are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton.

As a local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, we have had the incredible privilege of being part of a mission she believed so deeply in: putting books into the hands and hearts of children and helping them discover the joy of reading.

Dolly’s impact reaches far beyond music. Through her generosity, kindness, and belief in the power of a child and a book, she helped create a legacy that will continue for generations.

We are devastated by this loss and will share additional information as it is provided to us by the Imagination Library Foundation.

Today, we invite you to honor Dolly in a simple way: read a favorite book with a child. Share a story. Turn the page. Make a little time for the magic of reading.

Thank you, Dolly, for giving so many children the gift of a book — and so much more.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Your legacy will live on in every child who opens a book because of you.

You don’t need an entire day to make a difference. 💙

Our Fresh Start Collaborative welcomes volunteers who can give just a couple of hours to help sort, organize, and prepare donations. It’s simple, hands-on work that helps keep resources organized and ready for the people who need them.

Want to make it a group effort? We can also coordinate volunteer projects for businesses, organizations, clubs, families, and other groups looking for a meaningful way to give back together.

A few hours. A few extra hands. A real impact.

💛Foundation Fridays!💛

August is National Make-A-Will Month — and for this week’s , we’re talking about one of the most meaningful ways to build a legacy that lasts. 💙

A will is about more than deciding who receives what. It’s about protecting the people you love, putting your wishes in writing, and giving thought to the kind of impact you want to leave behind.

For many families, a gift through a will or other estate plan can become a generational gift — one that continues strengthening a community long after the original gift is made. A bequest to United Way Central Washington can help ensure that future generations have access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive. 🌱

And you don’t have to be wealthy to make a difference. A gift of any size can become part of a legacy of generosity and community impact.

That’s why we’ve partnered with FreeWill, offering our community a free, easy-to-use tool to create or update a will. It takes less than 30 minutes, costs you nothing, and gives you the opportunity to make your wishes clear — including the option to leave a gift to a cause you care about.

Whether you’re creating your first will or it’s simply time to update the one you already have, August is a great time to take that step.

✨ Plan for the people you love.
✨ Protect what matters most.
✨ Leave a legacy that can reach generations.

Every family needs a safe place to live and food on the table.

But the rising cost of these basics is putting added pressure on household budgets. Between 2007 and 2024, housing costs in the U.S. nearly doubled while food costs rose 38%.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures price changes across a broad range of goods and services. The ALICE Essentials Index focuses just on the basics families need every day. Because housing and food make up the largest portions of the Index, they are also the biggest drivers of its increase.

Better data helps communities understand where pressures are greatest — and where solutions can have the biggest impact.

Learn more about the ALICE Essentials Index at the link in the comments.
