🚫🔥 STATEWIDE BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥🚫

Governor Bob Ferguson issued a burn ban covering all 39 Washington counties through noon on September 30, 2026.

This statewide order remains in effect even if Yakima County’s current restrictions are lifted sooner. Most outdoor and agricultural burning is prohibited, and local jurisdictions may impose even stricter restrictions.

Before lighting any outdoor fire, check the restrictions for your location. Please help protect our communities and prevent the next wildfire.

☀️ As we wrap up August and our month-long series of heat-safety reminders, remember that hot weather can continue well beyond the end of the month.

Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, wear lightweight clothing and take breaks in a cool or shaded area. Continue checking on children, older adults, neighbors and anyone who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

Know the warning signs of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 immediately.

A little preparation and awareness can help everyone finish the summer safely!

West Valley schools are back in session tomorrow!

School buses will be returning to their routes, children will be waiting at bus stops, and morning traffic will be heavier. Please slow down, stay alert and allow a little extra time to reach your destination.

Let’s work together to give West Valley students, families and school staff a safe start to the new school year!

🐾 August may be coming to an end, but the summer heat isn’t finished yet!

Remember that our four-legged family members depend on us to keep them safe. Provide plenty of fresh water and shade, avoid walks on hot pavement, and never leave a pet inside a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.

Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness or confusion. If you believe your pet is suffering from heat-related illness, move them to a cooler area and contact a veterinarian right away.

Let’s keep every member of the family safe as we finish out the summer!

Our crew is back at the Pierce factory in Florida this week for final inspection of our new Engine 251 and Engine 54. These engines are replacing our 2004 E251 and E54 both of which will be in reserve in District. Thank you to Hughes Fire Equipment and Marty Roberts for designing engines that will fit our communities needs for many years to come, and thank you to our community for supporting our levy lid lift in 2024 making this purchase possible.
