With assistance from our ProAct Team, the Pacific NW Violent Offender Taskforce, and deputies, we arrested a shooting suspect for the Twin Falls Police Department. 36-year-old Anthony Alvarez from Grandview has been provided with temporary government housing here in Yakima until he is relocated to the State of Idaho. We were happy to help the Twin Falls community.

The subject sought in connection with the August 1, 2026, shooting investigation in the 300 block of Trotter Dr has been taken into custody today in Yakima, Washington.

Twin Falls Police Department detectives worked with local, state, and federal law-enforcement partners during the investigation and efforts to locate Anthony Alvarez, 36.

Alvarez was wanted on an arrest warrant for aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Bond was set at $250,000.

The Twin Falls Police Department appreciates the assistance and coordination provided by our local, state, and federal law-enforcement partners in locating Alvarez.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On September 1, 2026, at around 5:45 pm, Yakima County Deputies responded to Home Acres Rd. near Wapato after reports of an unresponsive male in a vehicle.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, a juvenile male was located unresponsive with a gunshot wound. The male was soon pronounced deceased by arriving medical personnel. All law enforcement personnel worked closely with community members and each other to locate and detain a juvenile subject who was believed to be involved with the deceased at the time of the incident.

Based on the information available at the time, probable cause was established to arrest the juvenile driver for Assault in the First Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Fi***rm for brandishing and attempting to discharge the fi***rm at an unrelated group. The homicide investigation into the same individual’s discharge of a fi***rm, which led to the death of his passenger, remains ongoing with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.

In the early morning of August 11th, 2026, we received a phone call from a lost hiker who needed our Search and Rescue (SAR) assistance.

The hiker was on the south side of Mt. Adams, in the Southwest Chutes. He fell down a 200-foot embankment and was trapped there. He lost most of his hiking gear during the fall.
Our SAR coordinator mobilized a two-man rescue team, and the US Army helicopter picked them up from our office. They flew to the hiker, picked him up, and then all flew back to our office, where he was reunited with his mother.

We are pleased with the outcome, as it could easily have been much worse. Thank you, Search and Rescue, for your excellent training, and thank you to the US Army for the ride. We are fortunate to have you in our community.

A Flock success story.

Using a Flock automatic license plate reader (ALPR) helped us quickly arrest a person for a physical domestic violence assault that resulted in the victim sustaining substantial bodily harm, a felony offense.

The Union Gap Police Department developed probable cause for the felony charge and requested our assistance in locating the suspect. A search of Flock LPR identified the last known location of the suspect’s vehicle. Deputies located the suspect and made an arrest in about 10 minutes.

This case highlights the importance of modern police investigation tools like Flock and ALPRs. They can provide additional leads and information during criminal investigations. ALPR use in public areas will be conducted in a legal and ethical manner while recognizing and protecting constitutional standards of privacy.

Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, WA - K9 Anita has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Anita’s vest was sponsored by Slavens Racing of Colorado Springs, CO and embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by Jeff Slavens and Sue Bruchy”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,513 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. We are asking the public to help us identify the person in the photo. He was involved in the vandalism of county property about three days ago in the Gleed area. He appears to be wearing an Adidas long-sleeve shirt as a “mask”.
