Crews are continuing to monitor the fires all day.

Your City of Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews are currently working hard to contain and extinguish a significant 3-acre fire on the Yakima Greenway. ⚠️ The Greenway is closed from the N 6th Ave entrance to the N 16th Ave entrance. The fire was called into 911 at approximately 12:14 AM. Your City of Yakima Firefighters have been working hard since then. The fire is considered suspicious, and we urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the Yakima Police Department (YPD) to help with the investigation. Your help is crucial in determining the cause of this fire and keeping our community safe. 💯 Stay safe, Yakima!

With 11 years of dedicated service, including extensive experience as a "Truckie" on TK91, Lt. Buskas is well-equipped to assume a leadership role as YFD shapes it's future. Outstanding work!

The City of Yakima Fire Department is proud to recognize Roque Garcia, recipient of the Apple Award at last night’s City Council meeting for his outstanding bravery.
On March 30th, 2026, while Engine 95 was en route to an aid call, the crew spotted Mr. Garcia climbing through a window of a duplex. Moments later, flames became visible inside the structure. E95 diverted to the fire, ensured the aid call was covered, and moved to assist.
Mr. Garcia acted after hearing smoke alarms from a neighboring unit. He quickly grabbed several water bottles, entered through the window, and attempted to stop the cooking fire before it could spread. His quick thinking and decisive action prevented significant damage to the duplex.
