Check your harness and wear it!!

With the white-tailed deer archery season coming in this Saturday, hunters across North Carolina are getting ready to head into the woods. As you check your gear and prepare for opening day, remember to keep safety at the forefront, especially if you’ll be using a treestand. A quick inspection and proper harness use can go a long way toward preventing accidents.

Remember: get permission if hunting private property, tag and register your harvest, and treat crossbows like they are loaded-keep them pointed in a safe direction. Good luck to everyone this season!

Our members spent the evening working through the fundamentals of an effective search response—from call out response and personal gear to reviewing the Lost Person Behavior book and understanding how behavior can help guide search planning.

We then put the classroom knowledge to work with a SARtopo practical, putting mapping, and field skills together in a hands-on/light limited environment.

Search calls are often complex, unpredictable, and physically demanding. Success starts long before the call—it starts with training, preparation, and knowing your equipment and your team.

It’s that time of year again! Starting this week, members of Yadkin County Rescue Squad will be hitting the streets with tickets for our annual raffle fundraiser.

The drawings will once again take place throughout the month of November, giving you plenty of chances to win while helping support your local volunteer rescue squad.

Every ticket purchased directly supports our operations, training, equipment, and ability to be there for our community when you need us most.

Tickets will be available from individual members, at the rescue station, and at Foothill Fi****ms in Yadkinville.

Tonight was athletic spine boarding training as we prepare for another football season.

Fortunately, these are low-frequency events, but that's exactly why we make it a priority every preseason to review, practice, and refresh these critical skills.

We hope these skills are never needed, but we'll always be ready if they are. Shout out to our friends from Maiden Rescue Squad for making the drive up to attend. 🚑 🏈

These images tell the story of today's 100-year rainfall event in Surry County.

The Mitchell, Fisher, and Ararat Rivers all feed into the Yadkin River over roughly a 20-mile stretch. With reports of up to 14 inches of rain overnight, the Ararat River has become the primary source of runoff.

Interestingly, river conditions can be deceiving. While water levels at Elkin are near normal or even below normal, the Yadkin at Enon is rapidly approaching flood stage as water from the upstream tributaries continues to make its way downstream.

This is an important reminder that conditions at one boat access or river crossing don't tell the whole story. Many access points upstream of Boonville may appear perfectly normal, while dangerous water is still moving through the system.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues across the river who worked tirelessly through the night during the height of the storm, responding to emergencies and keeping their communities safe.

If you're planning to be on or near the water, use extra caution. River conditions can change quickly, and what looks safe today may become dangerous in a matter of hours.

Be safe. Stay informed. And always be prepared for the unexpected.

This morning , our crews and East Bend Fire Department and Yadkin County Emergency Services responded to a water rescue at Yadkin Islands Access on the Yadkin River (part of Pilot Mountain State Park) after individuals became stranded by rapidly rising water from the Ararat River.

Our personnel, working alongside our public safety partners, safely reached the stranded individual and brought to safety without injury.

This incident serves as an important reminder that rivers can rise rapidly—even when it isn't raining where you are. A storm miles away can dramatically change river conditions in a short period of time as was the case here

We appreciate the teamwork of all responding agencies and are thankful for a successful outcome.

On July 31, 2001 Minnesota Vikings lineman Korey Stringer completed the second practice of the football season.

At 11:30 AM, when practice ended, the heat index had reached 99 °F; the heat index peaked later that day at 110 °F with a high temperature of 90 °F

When he was taken to Immanuel St. Joseph's–Mayo Health System hospital, his body temperature was 108 °F upon arrival. Stringer was unconscious from the time he was admitted until his death at on August 1. An autopsy confirmed that Stringer died from organ failure resulting from heat stroke.

Stringer's death has brought about major changes regarding heat stroke prevention throughout the football world. It is now a focus in most every sports emergency class taught across rhe US

NCEMS treatment protocols and algorithms have been modified to address situations of exertional heat stroke and have been aligned with best practice guidelines from the Korey Stringer Institute.
