City of Xenia Fire Division The Xenia Fire Division currently consists of 45 employees. In 2019 the Fire Division responded to over 6,000 incidents.

The Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief work Monday through Friday administrating the operations of the Fire Division, along with a part time fire inspector; the other 42 employees are split evenly among three shifts (A, B, and C). Each shift is commanded by a Captain who is assisted by two Lieutenants in running the daily shift activities. Ten firefighter/paramedics are assigned to each shift and ro

The Xenia Fire Division provides a wide range of services to the City of Xenia and Central State University including fire suppression, EMS, Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Fire Prevention, Fire Inspection and Plan Review. In addition to the normal fleet of fire and EMS vehicles, the Xenia Fire Division has paramedics who can respond on bicycles during special events in the community. The Xenia Fire Division handles more than 5,000 calls for service each year, and 85% of our calls are for our paramedics.

Premier Health honored the Xenia Fire & EMS Division with the Trauma Coin for their life-saving actions on December 8, 2025.

Crews responded to a cardiac arrest at an extended care facility, where staff had already begun CPR. Xenia Fire & EMS personnel took over care, provided advanced life support, and achieved return of pulses before transporting the patient to Miami Valley Hospital.

In an outcome seen in less than 1% of cardiac arrest cases, the patient was discharged neurologically intact.

Thank you to Premier Health for recognizing the outstanding work of our first responders!

Please join us in congratulating FF/EMT Kyler Polen on completing his first year with the Xenia Fire Division!

Smoke Alarms Save Lives and Property!

Last night, crews responded to a reported structure fire in the city. The homeowner was alerted by a smoke alarm sounding in the basement, which quickly got his attention and led to an early call to the fire department.

That early warning saved crucial time and helped limit the spread of the fire. Fires can travel quickly through wall spaces and hidden voids, so early detection makes a huge difference.

This incident is a great reminder of the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home. Test them regularly and make sure you have one on every level of your house.

Early detection can make all the difference.

Yesterday, A-Shift took advantage of the warm weather to get in some driver-operator training with our rookie. While out in the neighborhood, the crew had the chance to meet some local kids and give them a tour of Engine 32.

We always appreciate the opportunity to train and connect with the community at the same time.

Today our crews responded to an ice rescue after three citizens walked out onto an iced-over pond and fell through. Thankfully, all three individuals were able to self-rescue. We are grateful this had a positive outcome, but it very easily could have been much worse.

With the recent warm-up in temperatures, ice conditions have become even more unpredictable. Even when ice appears solid, fluctuating temperatures weaken it from the top down and the bottom up. Ice and water conditions are extremely dynamic. What may have supported weight days ago may no longer be safe today.

We strongly urge everyone to stay off frozen bodies of water. We are thankful today’s incident had a positive ending. Let’s work together to prevent the next one.

With the potential for heavy snow, we’re asking for your help keeping fire hydrants clear. If you’re able, please take a few extra minutes to shovel out any hydrants near your home or business.
Clear hydrants help us respond faster when seconds matter. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe.
