Welcome to the jungle! (And the desert, and the ocean...)

Last week, our amazing 2nd graders at Cox Elementary hosted their Habitat Showcase! From chilly polar regions to bustling rainforests, these young scientists built diorama models and made art showing different environments and the creatures that call them home.

This hands-on project ties perfectly into our Ohio Social Studies and Science standards, where students learn how living things interact with their environments and how different climates shape our world.

Our students did a fantastic job researching, designing, and presenting their work to visitors. Check out some of the incredible habitats on display!

Just in time for the last week of the school year, Tecumseh Elementary opened the wildest zoo in town!

Our talented 5th graders put their math and geometry skills to the test by creating a "Volume Zoo." For this hands-on math project, students designed and built incredible 3D animal creations, including a gorilla, a deer, a capybara, a scorpion, penguins, and some very busy otters — all while calculating the exact volume of their shapes.

Students from Kindergarten through 4th grade got the chance to "visit" the zoo today to admire the creativity, and maybe learn a *little* math along the way.

Check out photos from our amazing student engineers and see their wild creations!

Warner Middle School business classes had an incredibly busy week wrapping up their project-based learning activities.

✅️ During a fast-paced Gallery Walk, 8th grade students in Mrs. Phillips’ Business Class and Mr. Klosterman’s Design and Modeling class delivered business pitches to showcase their products. Their concepts were designed for WMS staff members, based on the teacher target market profiles they developed as part of their research.
✅️ Meanwhile, 7th grade students completed their food truck projects, where they designed unique food truck menus and developed business plans.
✅️ Our 6th grade students planned and operated lemonade stands, inviting staff and students to enjoy unique lemonade flavors and snacks in the cafeteria.

We are incredibly proud of our students’ creativity, problem-solving, and presentation skills throughout these hands-on business experiences!

Big congratulations to Xenia High School graduating seniors Ava Wellman and Jakayla Windsor for earning their professional Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certifications!
As part of their Health Science (Biomedical) Pathway—and guided by Mrs. Darla Gray and Dr. Martha Rutan—the duo tackled a real-world challenge: optimizing the school’s HOSA blood drives. 🩸📈

Using the industry-standard DMAIC problem-solving framework, Ava and Jakayla targeted root causes for donor deferrals, implemented strategic improvements like pre-donation education, and successfully boosted student blood donations from 46 to 56 participants!

We are incredibly proud of the lasting legacy of operational excellence and community service these two leaders are leaving behind at XHS.

Shawnee Elementary’s Stacia Gonzalez has been named Ohio's AFA STEM Teacher of the Year!

Every day in our classrooms, Mrs. Gonzalez proves that you’re never too young to think like an aerospace engineer — in fact, she thinks the best way to grow creative thinkers who can work together to solve challenges is to start early!

Over the course of the school year, her kindergartener students tackled hands-on challenges that build a strong foundation for future science learning:
📐 3D Modeling & Robotics: Coding with LEGO Spike Essential kits and designing in Tinkercad.
🐷 Fairy Tale Engineering: Building wind-resistant homes for the Three Little Pigs and bridges for the Gingerbread Man.
⚡ Physical Science: Constructing simple circuits and exploring magnetic forces.

By blending creativity with the engineering design process, Mrs. Gonzalez is sparking a lifelong love for science — as well as key skills such as perseverance, empathy, and innovation — that our youngest learners can build on in the years to come!

You can see more about her in this video from yesterday's Kindergarten STEM Day — and read more online at https://bit.ly/Gonzalez_AFA-Ohio-STEM-Teacher_2026
