National Crime Victim’s Rights Week was April 19 - 25, 2026. Every year, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding services to victims of crime here in Greene County. This year we honored these two deserving recipients.

The David P. Eckert Outstanding Law Enforcement Service Award - Detective Zachary Zink of the Fairborn Police Department

Outstanding Community Service Award - Greene County Domestic Relations Court Protection Order Coordinator Sherri Hall

These two demonstrate their commitment and compassion to crime victims everyday. In fact, the presentation to Det. Zink was delayed because he was State’s witness in a sexual assault trial that resulted in a guilty verdict!

Special thanks to Connie and Brad Eckert for joining us to honor Detective Zink, and Victim Witness Director Riki Karolyi and Victim Advocate Michelle White for helping us honor these wonderful people.

On May 1st, 23 year old Adrian Hernandez of Cincinnati pleaded guilty to first degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide and felony OVI for a crash that caused the death of his 18 year old passenger, Ashton Evans. Hernandez was traveling nearly 100 mph when the crash occurred on Bellbrook Avenue in Xenia in October of 2025. The homicide charge was the most serious charge in the indictment and Hernandez now faces a mandatory prison sentence of 3 - 11 years behind bars.

The Xenia Police Division and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted the investigation that resulted in this guilty plea. I commend their work and the efforts of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christian Cavalier and Victim Advocate Macey Boring. But in the final analysis, those efforts should not have been necessary. This was an entirely avoidable and senseless tragedy that puts into sharp focus the dangers and tragic consequences of drinking and driving.

The State will be seeking the maximum sentence for the defendant.

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to two of five charges he was facing. The remaining three were dismissed.

Yesterday, a Greene County jury found Steven Neikirk guilty of Failure to Comply with the Order or Signal of a Police Officer after he fled following a traffic violation. This is Neikirk’s second conviction for this crime, meaning he will permanently lose his driver’s license.

The hard work of Detective Sexton and Deputy Brennaman of the Greene County Sheriff’s office, in addition to officers from both the Jamestown and Cedarville Police Departments made this conviction possible. Assistant Prosecutor Christian Cavalier, assisted by Victim Advocate Macey Boring, led the prosecution team.

He faces a lifetime suspension of his driver’s license, a fine of up to $5,000, and up to 18 months in jail.

A hard earned guilty verdict was returned today in a sexual assault case in Greene County Common Pleas Court. This result was made possible by the exceptional police work of the Fairborn Police Department, in particular Detective Zachary Zink.

The trial team composed of Assistant Prosecutor Jessica Zeigler and Victim Advocate Anna Fischer presented a compelling case for the prosecution. Everyone worked together to secure justice for this victim.

Saugat Singh Basnet, 20, was found guilty of three counts of illegal use of an impaired person in nudity-oriented material and two counts each of r**e and sexual battery on Thursday.

Police officers risk their lives everyday to make sure that our communitues are safe. Kyle Berry discharged a gun in public, attempted to shoot a civilian, and then raised his gun towards the police.

Because of the exceptional training and professionalism of the Xenia Police Division, the only person injured was Kyle Berry himself. Now he is facing 9-25 years in prison.
