The Wynnewood Fire Department was proud to award a 2026 Senior our Wynnewood Fireman Scholarship. This was our 11th year to give this scholarship. One of the criteria we look for is someone that is going to enter the fire fighting profession. This year’s winner is going to attend EOC Fire Academy where he will get his Fire Fighter 1, Fire Fighter 2, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Ops and EMT Basic certifications. Congratulations to Deagan Dixon! Pictured is Deagan Dixon with his Dad, Matt Dixon who is a 23 year member of the WWFD and Greg Dixon who is also a 23 year member of the WWFD!

Officer Steven White is better known to us at the WWFD as just Steven. He’s been a vital member of the WWFD for 15 years. He’s always willing to step up and lend a hand on anything we’re doing so it’s no surprise to us that he’s doing an awesome job as a member of the PVPD. Congratulations to Lt. Steven White!

The Wynnewood Fire Department is extremely sad to hear the news of two fellow fire fighters dying this morning on the way to a structure fire. There aren’t a lot of details but what we know is they were veteran members of the Goldsby Fire Department in McClain County. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the two firemen.

Merry Christmas to all of our friends and family!

We know times are tough for lots of people but for some it’s worse than tough. For some in our town “tough” means going to bed again tonight with little to nothing to eat! This year we are hoping to make 70 food boxes to help the needy families in our town. If you are able to help at all please do so! If you don’t have school age kids, but want to help, then message us here, contact any of the firemen (we know you have AT LEAST ONE in your contacts) or call the WWPD or City Hall! Thank you so much!

This week is Fire Prevention Week all across the Country. The WWFD went to all three Wynnewood Schools and conducted fire drills and took the kids at the Elementary School for Fire Truck rides. One of our firemen has a first time rider in the PreK, one had a last time rider in the 4th grade and one had an old pro in the 3rd grade. A big thank you to the Wynnewood Schools for your help this week!!!

The Wynnewood Fire Department just completed two days of pump testing. We do this annually to stay in compliance and this year #2 of us hosting other departments for their testing. Our Rural Fire Coordinator, Phil Powell does a great job of helping us get and stay in compliance. We had trucks from Katie, Elmore City, Hennepin, Rush Creek, Pernell, Stratford and Maysville for a total of 13 trucks! We also had Garvin County EM2 on scene to lend a hand! All three of Wynnewood’s Engines passed with flying colors. Our Engine #5 wins the “Oldest Truck” Award (it’s a 1985 Ford) and Elmore City won the “Biggest Truck” Award with a pump capacity of 1750 GPM. Thanks for all the work men and we will do it again next year!
