❤️ A Life Saved. A Future Bright. ❤️

Five years ago today, 15-year-old Benjamin Riston suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at home while surrounded by his family. Thanks to his family’s quick action in starting CPR before EMS arrival—and the rapid, coordinated response of North Greenbush Ambulance, Town of North Greenbush Police Department, and Wynantskill Fire Department—Ben was successfully resuscitated and transported to Albany Medical Center for continued care.

Today, we are proud to share just how far Ben has come. Since that day, he has graduated from Averill Park High School and gone on to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America—an incredible achievement and a testament to his determination and strength.

Ben, congratulations on all you have accomplished. Your future is bright, and we wish you continued success in everything that lies ahead. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your story. 💙🚑

These are some exciting times for NGAA. As we move forward to expand our partnerships and capabilities, with the sole purpose of better serving our community.

Sand Lake Ambulance is proud to partner with North Greenbush Ambulance Association on Advanced Airway Management training: a specialized program that prepares our crews to provide an even higher level of life-saving care. This will include procedures such as RSI and Surgical Airways, which can be lifesaving for the most critically ill and injured patients.

This joint initiative is especially meaningful because together, Sand Lake Ambulance and
North Greenbush will soon become the first and only EMS providers in the county trained and equipped for this advanced airway process. Our teams often overlap in mutual aid coverage, and now, we’re advancing side-by-side to ensure every patient gets the best care possible, no matter which town they’re in.

Training continues through early 2026, and once complete, both agencies will be certified in this new standard of airway management. Down the line, we plan to acquire 2–3 additional ventilators to expand this capability even further. Your support goes further than just maintaining our ambulances; it helps us raise the bar for emergency care.

💙 Together, we save lives.

Mutual aid means stronger care for everyone, and the future of EMS is collaboration.

When one ambulance is already on a call, a neighboring EMS agency steps in so help is always close by. It’s a simple idea with a powerful impact: neighbors supporting neighbors across town lines, united by one goal: saving lives.

This cooperation is what makes our region stronger, safer, and better prepared for tomorrow.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters of the Sand Lake Ambulance and the rest of the capital region EMS community!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our longtime colleague and friend, Kevin Robert.

Kevin passed away suddenly while at work at his full-time job. Though he was a part-time employee with Sand Lake Ambulance, he was among our longest-serving members. Kevin was a kind and patient man who was never fazed by anything. He was also a thoughtful teacher to new EMTs and paramedics and helped guide many through the start of their careers.

Kevin’s steady presence, compassion, and dedication to helping others will be deeply missed by all of us at Sand Lake Ambulance and by the community he served.
