🐾 Exciting News for Wylie Animal Services! 🐾

The City of Wylie Animal Services is excited to announce a new partnership with Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) to grow our volunteer program!

Friends of Rescue Animals has a long history of supporting shelter pets and volunteers throughout the region, and we are thrilled to welcome them to Wylie. Through this partnership, FRAs will help strengthen volunteer engagement, expand enrichment opportunities for shelter animals, and support our efforts to connect more pets with loving homes.

Our volunteers play an important role in the success of our shelter, and we're excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring for both our animals and our community.

Interested in becoming a volunteer? Friends of Rescue Animals will be helping coordinate volunteer opportunities at Wylie Animal Services.

Keeping Coyotes Wild in Wylie.
Wylie shares our community with a variety of wildlife, including coyotes. This native species plays an important role in our ecosystem, but to keep both residents and wildlife safe, coyotes must maintain a healthy fear of people.
Mid-May is a busy time for coyotes as adults move frequently while raising pups. Because coyotes are highly adaptable and can thrive in urban areas, we all play a part in preventing them from becoming comfortable in our neighborhoods.
A major factor in reducing unwanted coyote activity is eliminating food sources.
Please do not feed pets outdoors and do not feed wildlife, intentionally or unintentionally.
Leaving out pet food, unsecured garbage, overflowing bird feeders, or fallen fruit attracts coyotes and encourages them to return. Keeping yards and parks clean and free of food is one of the most effective ways to prevent habituation.
When coyotes lose their natural fear of humans, conflicts can increase. This is why hazing, safely scaring coyotes away, is an important tool for coexistence.
If you encounter a coyote:
• Make loud noises: clap, shout, or use a whistle.
• Wave your arms, stomp, or open a jacket to appear larger.
• Throw objects toward (not directly at) the coyote to encourage it to move away.
Hazing reinforces a coyote’s natural instinct to avoid people, helping keep our community safe and wildlife wild. Remember to stay calm, avoid direct eye contact, and back away slowly once the coyote retreats.
