We held our 35th Annual Pow-Wow this past weekend, and despite the rain, we concluded it Sunday night at the Wyandotte HS gym. Here are images from all 3 days of the Pow-Wow. (Photos: William Swaim | Wyandotte Nation).
Our Head Staff this year included: Jade, Roubedeaux, Head Singer; White Eagle Singers, Host Northern Drum; Head Man Dancer Louie Sage; Head Lady Mikah WhiteCloud; Head Gourd Ketoowa Fish; Lenape Honor Guard; MC Wade Blevins; Head Arena Directors Chuck Bread and Skylar Nucosee; Head Judge Eric Hicks; and our Princesses Veyda Marlow and Neveah Cooper.
Thanks to our Head Staff, thanks to our Pow-Wow Committee for adjusting to the weather, thanks to all the dancers who were fantastic, and thanks to all who came out rain AND shine this weekend! We look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Sunday session, September 13th, will be at the Wyandotte Schools Gymnasium. Dancer registration and dances will be in the New Gym. Vendors will be in Old Gym, Parking and Food Vendors will be parked on the Southside of the gyms.

Gourd and dancer registration will begin at at Noon. Grand Entry will be at 1:30 PM with Junior and Senior Women’s and Men’s contests being conducted today.

Free entry and open to everyone. Bleachers provided, but be sure to bring your pow wow chair if you’d prefer that or if space is limited in bleachers.

Rain may have cancelled Saturday evening's Pow-Wow session, but plenty of competition dancing took place in the afternoon. Photos from all sessions will be posted Monday, so keep an eye out. As for Sunday, we will be back at it! Gourd and dancer registration will start at Noon on Sunday, September 13th, with a 1:30 PM grand entry at the pow-wow grounds. All men's and women's contests will be held Sunday. What does this mean for you? Plenty of fantastic contest dancing from some of the best in the area! We'll see you out there!

Today, we recognized Chief Billy Friend as our 2026 Honored Person.
Chief Friend is being honored for his nearly three decades of dedicated service to the Wyandotte Nation and its citizens. He began his career at the Tribe in 1998 as the first manager of the newly constructed Bearskin Fitness Center. Over the next 28 years, Billy held a variety of roles across the government and economic development divisions, continually expanding his impact within the Tribal community. In 2006, he successfully ran for Second Chief, a position he held until 2011, when he stepped into the role of Chief following Chief Leaford Bearskin’s retirement. From his first day at the Fitness Center to his current role as Chief, his career reflects a commitment to serving the people and striving to advance the success of the Wyandotte Nation.
• Under Chief Friend's leadership, the Wyandotte Nation has grown to employ more than 1,000 people and generates more than $200 million in annual revenue. This sustained growth has enabled the Nation to invest in programs, services, infrastructure, and initiatives that improve the quality of life for its citizens while preserving Wyandotte culture and strengthening tribal self-governance.
• This award recognizes not only what Chief Friend has accomplished, but the kind of person he has chosen to be throughout his years of service, which is someone who leads by caring, serves by example and doesn’t lose sight of the mission of the Wyandotte Nation.

The evening session for Saturday, September 12th, is cancelled. Gourd and dancer registration will start at 12 PM on Sunday, September 13th with a 1:30 PM grand entry at the pow wow grounds. All men's and women's contest will be conducted tomorrow.

Stomp and socials will still be on for tonight at 8 PM at the pow wow grounds. Paying all leaders and shell shakers. Bring out your cans! Everyone welcome.
