Today, Mayor Robert DeSana joined the staff, leadership, and community at Wyandotte Henry Ford Hospital to celebrate the hospital's Centennial Anniversary.

During the ceremony, Mayor DeSana presented a Key to the City in recognition of the hospital's 100 years of service, dedication, and commitment to the residents of Wyandotte and the Downriver community.

Adding a special historical connection to the celebration, former Mayor Jim DeSana also participated in the presentation. As Mayor of Wyandotte when the hospital sold, he helped present the Key to the City, symbolizing both the hospital's rich history and its continued commitment to providing exceptional healthcare for future generations.

From its founding in 1926 to today, Wyandotte Henry Ford Hospital has touched countless lives through compassionate care, medical innovation, and community service.

Congratulations on this remarkable milestone and thank you for a century of caring for our community.

Alice, our Beautification Chair and downtown flower expert, says a little extra care during hot weather can help keep your flowers looking their best.

๐Ÿ’ฆ Water deeply in the early morning. This gives plants time to absorb moisture before the heat of the day arrives.

๐ŸŒฑ Add a layer of mulch around flowers and garden beds. Mulch helps retain moisture and keeps roots cooler.

๐ŸŒผ Keep up with deadheading. Removing spent blooms encourages many annuals to keep producing flowers throughout the season.

๐Ÿชด Pay extra attention to containers and hanging baskets. They dry out much faster than plants growing in the ground and may need watering more often.

โ˜€๏ธ If your flowers look a little droopy during the hottest part of the day, donโ€™t panic. Many plants perk back up once temperatures cool in the evening.

Alice says: โ€œThe best defense against summer heat is a good watering routine. A few extra minutes in the morning can keep your garden colorful all season long!โ€ ๐ŸŒบ

๐ŸŽ† Letโ€™s Talk Fireworks โ€“ The Safe, Legal & Neighborly Way ๐ŸŽ†

As Independence Day approaches, we know fireworks will spark some strong opinionsโ€”so letโ€™s cover the facts before the fuse is lit. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Whether you love a good light show or dread the late-night booms, one thing we can all agree on is the importance of safety and respect.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Hereโ€™s what the City ordinance says:

โœ… Fireworks are only allowed:

By adults (18+)

On private property (not in the street, parks, schools, etc.)

In a manner so that no part of the fireworks will land on or be deposited on anotherโ€™s property.

Only on specific dates and times after 11 a.m.:

June 29 โ€“ July 4 (until 11:45 p.m.)

July 5 (only if it falls on a Friday or Saturday)

Other approved holidays include select days for Memorial Day, Labor Day & New Yearโ€™s Eve

๐Ÿšซ Fireworks are not allowed:

By minors or those under the influence

On public land or someone elseโ€™s property (without permission)

Sky lanterns are banned and federally banned explosives like M-80s, Cherry Bombs, and Silver Salutes are illegal.

๐Ÿ’ธ Violations may result in a $1,000 fine, with a portion supporting public safety.

๐Ÿพ Please be a good neighbor and keep pets, veterans, and sensitive individuals in mind during this time of year. Respect goes a long way.
