I had the opportunity to spend some time with the impressive group of young people participating in the Suffolk County Legislature Page Program. We discussed my experience in the legislature as both clerk and a legislator, and everything they have to look forward to this summer. We have two awesome young ladies serving as Pages in my district office this year, Lexi Othman from Adelphi University and Elif Polat from Hofstra University. I'm looking forward to spending the summer with them!

The Page Program is a 10-week summer internship for college students designed to provide the guidance and training for them to become the next generation of Suffolk's leaders. For more information, visit https://www.scnylegislature.us/895/Page-Program

This week, the Legislature celebrated our "Healthcare Heroes" from across the county with a special ceremony at the start of our general meeting. I'm proud to announce North Babylon High School Nurse Alvita Felix as the 15th Legislative District's 2026 "Healthcare Hero"!

For over three decades, Alvita has been a pillar of the North/West Babylon community- a dedicated nurse, devoted mother, entrepreneur, and leader whose life is a testament to faith, purpose, and love for others. Alvita's nursing career spans over 30 years, beginning in surgical care and progressing through the operating room and homecare before finding her calling as a school nurse. For 14 years she has served the North Babylon School District, with the past 10 of those years at North Babylon High School, where she is known and beloved as "Nurse Felix."

Since 2014, she has served as an advisor for the school's Black History Month program, guided by her heartfelt motto: "The goal for our children of color is for them to be motivated, educated, and to draw lessons from history to better their future." Alvita founded Christ at the Door Childcare in 2002 as a reflection of her commitment to glorifying God in all she does. Through her group family daycare, she equipped countless children to thrive in elementary school while supporting families across North Babylon. A mother of four and grandmother of three, Alvita Felix leads with grace, gives with generosity, and serves with joy. She is truly worthy of recognition.

A big thank you going out to Nurse Felix for all that you do to support your community! You are our Healthcare Hero!
