The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency will have a special ceremony in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 inside the Legislative Hearing Room of the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello.

The public is cordially invited to attend this special ceremony.

“Please join us in taking the time to remember those who were Prisoners of War (POW), those who are Missing in Action (MIA), and their families,” offered Veterans Service Agency Director Stephen Walsh.

Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello is pleased to announce that Sullivan County is hosting a residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in September.

Scheduled for Sunday, September 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., it will be offered at the Monticello Transfer Station at 91 Landfill Drive.

The program is open to individuals with residences in Sullivan County ONLY – photo ID or other proof of residency will be required. There is no charge, and pre-registration is not required.

This event is intended to collect and properly manage residentially-generated hazardous household materials like herbicides, pesticides, mercury-containing items, cleaning products, pool chemicals, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, paints, solvents, acids, bases, automotive batteries, antifreeze and preservatives, just to name a few. Please note that tires, refrigerators, electronics, am******on, radioactive material and medical waste will not be accepted at this event.
