The E. A. W. Johnson house that stood where the Community Bank is now. The house was built in 1911 on the Colonial plan. It had every modern convience of the time. The Johnson's moved into their new home on new years eve 1911. In later years it became a boarding house for travelers. Sometime in the late 1960s to early 70s it was remove to build the bank.

President Jefferson Davis, before serving as president of the Confedrate States, he was a graduate of West Point, served in the Blackhawk War 1831. Married first to future president Zachary Taylor's daughter, Sarah, who died, married second to Varina Howell. Served in Mexican-American War in battles of Monterrey and Buena Vista. Served as a representative in the U. S. House and later the Senate. Appointed Secretary of War for President Frankin Pierce before becoming President of the Confederacy. His father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Was never tried for treason on account of some justices cautioned the government if they tried him and he won, it would justify the right of secession.
