The Community Preservation Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Wrentham Senior Center.

At this meeting, the Committee will be hearing the following applications for grants:

1. The Friends of Mirror Lake are applying for $25,000 to fund treatment of invasive curly leaf pondweed.

2. The Recreation Commission is applying for $350,000 to add lighting to fields at the Rice Recreation Complex.

What Does the Community Preservation Committee Do?

Many Wrentham residents have heard of the Community Preservation Committee (CPC), but may not be familiar with its role and responsibilities. Here's a brief overview.

The Community Preservation Committee was established after Town Meeting approved adoption of the Community Preservation Act (CPA) in 2016. The CPA is a Massachusetts law that allows cities and towns to create a dedicated fund to support four important community priorities:

Open space preservation
Historic preservation
Affordable housing
Outdoor recreation

The fund is financed through a local property tax surcharge, with additional matching funds provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The CPC consists of nine members. Seven represent various town boards and committees, while two members are appointed at-large by the Select Board. The Committee meets monthly to review applications requesting CPA funding for projects that fall within the four eligible categories. After reviewing each proposal, the CPC makes funding recommendations to Town Meeting, which has the final authority to approve expenditures.

Over the years, CPA funding has helped support a number of important community projects, including:

Acquisition of several open space properties
Installation of the Rochambeau French Encampment Marker outside King Philip Regional High School
Digitization of Wrentham's town records and Annual Reports dating back to 1656
Preservation efforts at Mirror Lake

The Community Preservation Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Wrentham Senior Center. Meetings are open to the public, and residents are always welcome to attend.
