Good Morning! I was disappointed to find this in my mailbox yesterday. I feel school board meetings and conversations with the community could answer and clarify a lot of the things said in the letter.
After the last meeting I took time to talk with several of the board members after I had spoke in the open forum. I wanted them to have a chance to respond and to create an open space for disagreement. As a board member I will seek more discussion, clarification and communication between the board & the community I represent.
I think that it’s important to ask questions not only of the incumbents, but also the other candidates who are asking for your vote this November. You should of had an opportunity at the forum tonight to ask questions of all of the candidates and others at the same time.
I don’t feel that it’s fair to makes accusations of “mud flying” when you are asking questions to the school board. Elected officials should expect feedback both positive and negative and take time to consider it and then speak to it. Not everything will need a response or a change in their course of action, but some times it will. Thoughtful servant leadership is needed, followed by clear communication and action.
Constantly calling individuals out without speaking to them directly will only lead to a further division and a uncertain future for our children in the district. It is time to work together for a positive future. Working through the hard conversations and making difficult decisions while continuing to move forward will strengthen our school.
Our teachers are the heart of our school, they deserve a voice. The school board is a servant leadership position. They serve the community who elected them and fufill their duties with the goal of running a successful school. Teachers are often parents and community members. The school is not just a building, it is made up of our kids, teachers and staff. They are why I’m running for school board.
Teachers have a vested interest in the school board, they love our school. There are times where the school board must make tough decisions that affects administration, teachers and staff. However, that is not a majority of what they do.
The role of the school board is to support a strong administration, our teachers, and support staff that are working to build better futures for all of our kids. You can be in an elected leadership position and still thoughfully listen and consider those you are leading and serving.
We must leverage the talents of everybody in our school and community to do better for our kids!
