This week, we are honoring Worthington's Emergency Medical Responders! đźš‘

Day or night, Worthington’s emergency medical responders are always ready to serve with skill, compassion, and calm when it matters most. We’re proud to recognize their unwavering dedication to our community this National EMS Week, May 17-23, 2026.

First declared in 1974 by President Gerald Ford, EMS Week honors the lifesaving work of emergency medical responders across the country. The American College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians co-sponsor the annual recognition to honor the dedication of the professionals who provide life-saving services on the frontline.

At Worthington Fire & EMS, we recognize the critical nature of each link in the chain of response. Our 9-1-1 dispatchers, law enforcement, mutual-aid, and medical facility partners are there for our community, whenever and wherever they need us.

We dedicate ourselves to IMPROVING OUTCOMES, TOGETHER.

Sheep in Worthington!
One of the earliest ordinances passed after the incorporation of the Village of Worthington in 1835, was a law enacted in 1836 to restrain sheep and swine from running at large within the limits of the village. Worthington was making an effort to clean up, requiring owners with property fronting the public square to build sidewalks of brick, plank or gravel so pedestrians were spared the mud and manure of the streets. Grazing sheep and other livestock on the green was to become a thing of the past.

By 1850, the agricultural census showed that Sharon Township—then home to just over 1,000 residents—had more than 2,700 sheep, making them the most numerous livestock in the area, followed by 2000 swine.
