Today, we honor Juneteenth—a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity and opportunity for all.

At the American Association of Service Coordinators, we recognize that strong communities are built when every person has the opportunity to thrive. As Service Coordinators work each day to connect residents with resources, support independence, and strengthen communities, we are reminded that access, dignity, and opportunity remain essential to creating a more equitable future.

This Juneteenth, we celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans, reflect on our nation's history, and recommit ourselves to fostering communities where every resident feels valued, supported, and empowered.

Freedom. Opportunity. Community.

Happy Juneteenth!

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a chance for the world to recommit to ensuring that every older adult is afforded the dignity, safety, and support they deserve.

Service Coordinators play a vital role in preventing and stopping elder abuse - whether it's financial, emotional, physical, or otherwise - as a trusted partner in affordable housing communities, you often see the effects of the abuse before families and friends and have a unique opportunity to provide valuable education to seniors on signs they should be aware of as well.

Together, we can build safer communities for our older adults to remain healthy, happy, and housed!

Imposter scams are on the rise and are targeting vulnerable older adults online, over the phone, and in-person.

Join AASC on Tuesday, June 16th at 1PM EST for this timely Core Connections session hosted by the Federal Trade Commission on the most-reported scams and ways your residents can avoid them. More and more scams are taking everything older adults have saved by pretending to be family, banks, government, or healthcare providers.

We're excited to showcase a new breakout session during the 2026 National Service Coordinator Conference in Austin about the benefits of music therapy for older adults - the science is there, music is essential to health of the residents you serve!

New research published in The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences, has found that taking part in musical activities improves thinking and mental well-being in older adults. Read more: https://bit.ly/4dAjtmX.

AASC is excited to see that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has released $37 million in Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) grants to 114 affordable housing properties to fund Service Coordinators!

These ROSS Service Coordinators will work with multifamily residents, older adults, persons with disabilities, public housing residents, and tribal communities to increase pathways to economic independence for those living in affordable housing. We know that Service Coordinators are essential in promoting self-sufficiency, and the federal government recognizes that importance in awarding these grants.

We're excited to see so many renewals of successful existing programs and new Service Coordinators being added to the ranks of those working hard to keep their residents healthy, happy, and housed!
