Today in Minnesota Tornado Awareness Day. Nobles County outdoor warning sirens will go off at 1:45 and 6:45 PM today. Use the sirens as an opportunity to practice your tornado drill at work and at home with your families. Make sure you know where to go when the weather gets bad!!!

I know we all want to go outside and see the weather. But please seek shelter when the sirens go off.

Go to the lowest part of the building. Ideally, that would be the basement. If you do not have a basement, go to an interior room such as the bath room or closet on the main floor.
Stay away from windows.

Minnesota Severe Weather Awareness Week April 13-17th, 2026

Wednesday edition: Flooding
Most people ignore a flash flood warning, assuming it means they might have to drive through a puddle. As we know from two years ago, Flash Flooding can come on very quickly and cause a lot of damage. Floods claim nearly 200 live each year nationally. Don't ignore a Flash Flood warning and don't drive through flooded streets. The water can not only make your engine die, it can sweep you off the road!

On behalf of Nobles County, we proudly recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

While their work is often behind the scenes and too often overlooked, dispatchers serve as the critical first link in every emergency response. They are the calm voice during crisis, the steady hand coordinating help, and the unseen professionals who help protect our deputies, officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and the public.

Their ability to remain composed under pressure, gather critical information, and direct emergency resources quickly and accurately plays a vital role in saving lives and serving our communities.

Thank you for all that you do. Your work matters, and it does not go unnoticed.
