On March 2, 2021 Spencer firefighters responded to Chickering Road for an injured deer stuck out on the ice. Firefighters deployed their rescue alive sled and was able to bring the deer to shore where Spencer Animal Control and Mass Environmental Police handled the animal.

Overnight cold temps followed by several inches of snow have created dangerous conditions on lakes and ponds. Daytime temps close to 40 degrees and the insulating snow cover have halted ice formation. Pets off leash in these areas will find themselves trapped and owners attempting to rescue them will become victims as well.
