This Labor Day, we celebrate the people whose hard work, dedication, and service help Central Massachusetts thrive. 💙

From educators and healthcare workers to nonprofit professionals, small business owners, first responders, essential workers, and so many others, our community is stronger because of the people who show up every day to make a difference.

Today, we recognize the contributions of workers across our region and the important role they play in building stronger families, workplaces, and communities.

From all of us at United Way of Central Massachusetts, we wish you a safe and restful Labor Day!

On International Day of Charity, we celebrate the power of people coming together to care for their communities.

More than a century ago, Frances Wisebart Jacobs helped inspire what would become the United Way movement: bringing people and organizations together around a simple idea: we can accomplish more when we work together.

That spirit continues today, right here in Central Massachusetts.

Through service, generosity, partnership, and neighbors helping neighbors, we continue working toward a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Today, we celebrate all those who give their time, talents, and resources to make Central Massachusetts stronger.

Day of Action is NEXT WEEK!

On Friday, September 11, volunteers from across Central Massachusetts will come together to serve our community, but this year’s Day of Action carries an even deeper meaning.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

September 11 is recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, transforming a day marked by tragedy into one that also honors the compassion, unity, and service that followed.

For more than a century, United Way has believed in the power of people coming together to care for their neighbors. On September 11, we’ll continue that tradition right here in Central Massachusetts.

We’ll remember by serving.
We’ll honor by helping.
And we’ll show what can happen when a community comes together.

Every leader has a story. 💜

Join us for our next Tuesdays with WI DEI Speaker Series featuring Seema Dixit, Commissioner of Health and Human Services for the City of Worcester!

With more than 25 years of experience in public health, Commissioner Dixit has built a career centered around strengthening communities, advancing public health, and bringing people and partners together. Before joining the City of Worcester earlier this year, she served in several leadership roles with the Rhode Island Department of Health, most recently as Deputy Director.

On September 22, we’ll go beyond the title to hear more about the woman behind the work: her personal and professional journey, the experiences that have shaped her leadership, and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

Across Central Massachusetts, young people are spending their summer learning, exploring, leading, creating, and discovering strengths they may not have known they had.

At Nativity School students challenged themselves through adventure, service, and leadership. One seventh grader arrived nervous about his first overnight trip and left having built confidence, friendships, and leadership skills. Eighth graders also took on a new role through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, learning about giving back and making thoughtful decisions about how to support their community.

Through ASOST (After School & Out-of-School Time) funding from Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education programs across North, South, and Central Massachusetts are creating similarly powerful opportunities for young people.

At Southbridge Middle High School, students took the stage for the UA Summer Performing Arts Academy showcase. A DESE representative who attended shared how inspiring it was to see so many young people deeply engaged in music, dance, and performance—and the connections they had built with one another and their staff.

At the EcoTarium UWCM committee volunteer Sean Harris visited the ASOST-funded Discovery program to see young people learning through hands-on exploration and discovery.

YouthConnect Summer Nights once again provided Worcester youth ages 11–16 with seven weeks of free evening programming designed to keep young people active, connected, and engaged.

These experiences create spaces where young people can build confidence, find their voice, develop leadership skills, and connect with their community.

United is the way to enriching youth opportunities!

25 YEARS LATER, WE REMEMBER THROUGH SERVICE. 🇺🇸

In 2 weeks, On Friday, September 11, volunteers across Central Massachusetts will come together for UWCM’s Day of Action, a National Day of Service and Remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

In partnership with the national 9/11 Day movement, we’re turning remembrance into action by giving our time, talents and energy to strengthen our community.

From beautification and landscaping to painting, organizing, classroom preparation and supporting our veterans and military community, there’s a way for everyone to make an impact.

There’s still time to volunteer. Join us and be part of a day that reminds us that when we come together, we can make a difference.
