Nestled in the heart of Montgomery County, Worcester was founded in 1733, incorporating several local villages such as Center Point, Cedars, and Fairview Village. Continental Army forces encamped in Worcester several times during the Revolutionary War, most notably when General George Washington stayed at the Peter Wentz Farmstead in 1777–twice! Hear all about it on a guided tour of the Wentz house, which is now a historic site.

STONE CRUSHER QUESTION

The citizen meeting Saturday evening, called by the Supervisors to consider the stone crusher question, about one hundred persons were in attendance. The question was throughly discussed and when a vote was taken 23 favored buying a stone crusher and 46 voted against it. Those who spoke in favor included B.F. Tyson, Esq., John K. Schultz, Jesse S. Kriebel, John K. Heebner, Dr. Elmer Kriebel. Those who spoke aganist included Isaiah Walker and J.P. Bustard, Leonard Hendricks, A. H. Scultz took a middle ground neither strongly opposing nor favoring the crusher, in other words stone roads. During the discussion it was brought out that a hired crusher cost 30 cents a ton. A owned crusher would give a capacity of 100 to 125 tons a day and make the stone cost about 7 cents a ton. The stone placed on the creamery road about two years ago, crushed by hired machine, cost 30 cents a ton. Noticeable fact was that all but one of the speakers who favored the crusher are extensive landowners and farmers. The meeting was presided over W.K. Anson, with A.H. Schultz and Wilson Freeman, secretaries.

Bill Bourne FARM MUSEUM at FARMERS HALL open this Saturday the 28th. Included in our collection are some township tools used in road maintenance. We will be open 9-noon, you will be free to spend your evening discussing township questions privately.
