We fly the Pride Progress flag at our sanctuary as part of Mass Audubon’s commitment to creating inclusive, equitable access to nature for people of all backgrounds and identities. 🏳️‍🌈

No matter who you are or how you identify, the natural world offers an opportunity to find inner peace and love. The green stripe on the rainbow flag reminds us to do just that: seek out places that help us grow and prosper.

We’re proud to share that Broad Meadow Brook has been honored with the 2026 EPIC Community Leadership Award.

We’re grateful to work alongside such dedicated Service Warriors whose volunteer efforts helped to make the sanctuary more welcoming and inclusive during their service day. And three cheers for Property Manager Leeann—her leadership and guidance have made a lasting impact.

Take action today! 🚨

Contact your state legislators today to ask them to support Amendment #10 to phase out the use of anticoagulant rodenticides statewide: https://web.massaudubon.org/site/Advocacy?page=UserAction&cmd=display&id=377&fbclid=IwY2xjawSehslleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETE5WnpuZ0xOT1FZSmxXTjFjc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHmpuhvttSIcGYFFfbiGodpQAz2so2bkKPOeDPeJvI-UEwmu5-RsVzfrXSc2v_aem_xDN1Nta-ySwPFhslJnNReA

Action Alert 🚨

Today, June 17, the House of Representatives is taking up the Mass Ready Act, and Amendment #10 would phase out the use of anticoagulant rodenticides statewide.

Across Massachusetts, thousands of beloved pets and wildlife, including owls, hawks, and foxes, are being poisoned by these toxic rodenticides. And many die after suffering prolonged, painful deaths from ingesting rodenticides through contaminated prey.

Make your voice heard!

Contact your representatives today and urge them to support this amendment. We need them to hear from as many supporters as possible before they vote on June 17.

Three cheers for the fantastic volunteers who recently helped remove debris and litter from Troiano Brookside Trail during our stream cleanup earlier this month.

Thanks to the incredible work of volunteers earlier this April, this group was able to move further down the trail toward the culvert. Their efforts are helping keep this waterway clean and healthy for both people and wildlife.

This work also supports our ongoing stream restoration project—learn more about how we’re improving the health of this ecosystem:

Think pigeons are just “city birds”? Think again.

In honor of National Pigeon Appreciation Day, we’re celebrating one of the most overlooked—and surprisingly fascinating—birds around. From delivering messages for humans beginning thousands of years ago to raising their young with a unique “crop milk,” pigeons have a story worth noticing.

They’re also a great reminder that nature is everywhere—even in the most urban places.

A young Great Blue Heron was recently spotted waiting patiently in the wetlands along Sprague Trail at Broad Meadow Brook.

Once rare in the Northeast due to hunting and pollution, these striking wading birds have made a remarkable comeback over the past few decades. Today, you can spot them at ponds, lakes, and rivers of all sizes—even in surprisingly urban places.
