The start of college brings new people, new experiences, and new independence. It can also bring increased risk for sexual violence.

Knowing about the Red Zone isn’t about telling students to be more careful or putting the responsibility for prevention on them. Knowledge can help students recognize risk, look out for one another, and know when and how to step in.

Research shows that active bystander approaches can help prevent sexual violence. That can look like checking in with a friend, interrupting a situation that doesn’t feel right, reinforcing consent and boundaries, or getting help when it’s needed.

Looking out for each other is part of creating safer campus communities.

Whether you're beginning your first semester, transferring schools, or returning after a break, a new school year often brings new classes, new living arrangements, new friendships, and new routines.

Give yourself permission to learn, adjust, and build your own network of support.
That network might include trusted friends, family, professors, counseling services—and Pathways.

As summer winds down, we've shared reminders that whether you're at a backyard barbecue, a music festival, a wedding, a family reunion, a workplace picnic, or simply spending time with friends, every gathering is an opportunity to help create a culture of respect.

The settings may change, but the message remains the same.

✔️ Respect boundaries.
✔️ Be aware of how alcohol can affect judgment and decision-making.
✔️ Look out for one another.
✔️ Trust your instincts.
✔️ Speak up when something doesn't feel right.
✔️ Help create spaces where everyone feels welcome, included, and safe.

Prevention isn't about taking the fun out of celebrations. It's about making sure everyone has the chance to enjoy them—and remember them for the right reasons.

Family reunions are filled with stories, laughter, traditions, and generations coming together. They can also be an opportunity to build something even more lasting—a family culture rooted in respect.

As families gather, we can help children and teens know:

💛 They can always come to a trusted adult if something doesn't feel right.
🗣️ Their voice matters, even if it's different from everyone else's.
🤝 Respecting personal boundaries is part of caring for one another.
👀 Looking out for each other is something every generation can model.
✨ Every family member deserves to feel safe, welcomed, and included.

Weddings create memories that last a lifetime. Let's make sure they're remembered for love, laughter, connection—and respect.

As friends and family gather to celebrate, everyone plays a part in creating an atmosphere where every guest feels welcome, included, and safe.

A few ways to help make the day memorable for all the right reasons:

💛 Celebrate without assuming someone's interest or comfort.
💃 Respect personal boundaries—on and off the dance floor.
🥂 If alcohol is part of the celebration, look out for friends and family who may need support or a safe ride home.
🤝 Check in if someone seems uncomfortable or isolated.
✨ Small acts of kindness and awareness help create a celebration everyone can enjoy.

Summer festivals are about live music, shared experiences, and making unforgettable memories with friends.

In the excitement of the moment, it's easy to let your guard down. Most people are there to have a great time—but a fun atmosphere should never camouflage behavior that crosses personal boundaries or makes someone feel unsafe.

Before the music starts:

🎵 Choose a meeting spot in case your group gets separated.

📱 Make sure everyone's phone is charged or bring a backup battery.

👥 Check in with one another throughout the day.

💛 Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, it's okay to leave a situation or ask for help.

🤝 If you notice someone looking uncomfortable, confused, or isolated, a simple "Are you okay?" can make a difference.

Looking out for one another doesn't take away from the fun—it helps everyone enjoy it.
