WCAC has an experienced history of providing education, employment, energy and asset developoment programs to assist those in the transition from poverty to self-sufficiency. Programs are primarily provided to low-income residents of Worcester and its surrounding towns with the goal of increasing the standard of living and creating opportunities for economic mobility beginning with basic needs, in

cluding fuel assistance, food stamps, and job skills. WCAC's programs provide the opportunity for self- sufficiency including asset development, income tax preparation, parenting resources, HiSET (formerly GED) classes, Head Start and Early Head Start, and youth training and employment.

No one should have to experience racism while simply doing their work and sharing their gifts with their community.

The artists working on Worcester’s Wall of Women were creating something meant to honor the women who have shaped our city when they were subjected to racist slurs intended to demean and dehumanize them.

One of those artists leads Create 508, an organization that shares space in our office and hosts an annual event dedicated to youth expression. We know the care, creativity, and heart they bring to their work and to the young people and families they serve. To know that they experienced this while giving something so meaningful to Worcester is deeply painful and reflective of the experiences of so many others.

Our communities deserve to feel safe, deserve to be treated with dignity and they deserve to move through their own community without having their humanity questioned because of the color of their skin.

We are deeply saddened that these artists had to carry this experience, and we hope they feel the care of a community surrounding them now.

We stand with you both and the YWCA Central Massachusetts and with the communities consistently impacted.
