Robert Bilotta District 2 City Councilor

Robert Bilotta District 2 City Councilor District 2 City Councilor. You deserve a Worcester that is affordable, has quality city services, & is safe to live in.

This won’t happen unless your city councilor is accessible, listens, & is accountable to you, not special interests. Born and raised in Worcester, I grew up on the East Side and come from a civically engaged family where being involved in the community was important. I graduated from North High in 2004 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Urban Studies from Worcester State University in 2010. As your City Councilor, I will bring that same dedication to you and everyone in District 2.

This past Friday, I was on a call with one of the two incredible artists painting the Worcester Wall of Women. A new public mural at the YWCA, honoring 40 women who helped shape Worcester’s history and community. We were discussing the idea of a neighborhood mural on Lincoln Street.

I asked how the mural was coming along, as they were just wrapping up a long day of painting. They informed me it was going well but shared a motorist had harassed them earlier in the day using racial slurs. I was saddened and angered to hear that this happened.

No one in our community should be subjected to demeaning and dehumanizing language. We are in a time in our country, when too many seek to normalize racism, sexism , ableism, homophobia and hate. It’s disgusting and concerning to see this happening in our community. We need to be in solidarity against racism and hate. Speak out against it and call attention to it.

As my colleague, Vice Chairman King point out. “This incident is not a one-off. It reflects experiences many people carry while simply trying to live, work, create, lead, and exist in this city. As elected leaders and community members, we must be willing to confront uncomfortable realities rather than dismiss the people living them.”

The artists actually grabbed a video, here are screenshots.

🚨🚨🚨Millbrook Street Bride Eastbound, closing September 14th.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is performing bridge preservation and roadway improvement work on the Millbrook Street Bridge over I-190 and the Millbrook Street Bridge over the Railroad in Worcester.

Work includes steel repair and painting, deck repair, bridge joint reconstruction, roadway and sidewalk repairs, and other structural and safety upgrades designed to extend the life of the bridges and improve long term roadway conditions.

• Eastbound traffic will be detoured
•Pedestrian access will remain across the bridge
• Westbound traffic will remain open across the bridge during all phases of construction
• The detour is expected to remain in place through construction.

Earlier this week I joined community members service providers, and City of Worcester Health and Human Services Department, for International Overdose Awareness day, to remember those lost to an overdose.

We know resources like supportive housing, peer support, mental health and vocational training are critical to saving lives and long term recovery.

Thank you to the folks in our community, and organizations like, Support After a Death by Overdose and AIDS Project Worcester. Who are helping people in crisis, providing harm reduction, and supporting those in mourning.

FYI. West Nile detected at Rural Cemetery on Grove Street.

A trap site at Rural Cemetery has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Program (CMMCP) will spray in Rural Cemetery on Thursday August 27th, after it closes to the public.

Residents are advised to observe the following precautions if their area is being sprayed:

-Close street-facing windows and turn off any “outside air” settings on air conditioners.

-Keep pets inside between sunset and midnight, and do not let children play near or behind truck-mounted applicators when they are in use.

-Remain inside during the application and for 15-20 minutes afterwards.

-Wash off any vegetables from home gardens after spraying and before consuming them.
