The United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties started as the Wooster Community Chest from 1940 to 1957. In 1957, the Community Chest was replaced by the Wooster United Fund, governed by an 18-member Board of Trustees elected from the general public. In 1974, the Wooster United Fund changed its name to United Way of Wooster, Inc. to better

align itself with the national movement of local United Ways. In 2002, United Way of Wooster changed its name to United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties in an effort to better identify the communities served by the agency.

✨ALICE Stability Micro-Grant Application 2026✨

United Way Wayne and Holmes will be offering micro-grants to meet the ongoing demands of our ALICE population (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). These are households with income above the Federal Poverty Level, but below the basic cost of living.

The focus is on direct client services. Organizations must meet the following criteria:
〰️Located in Holmes County or Wayne County, Ohio
〰️Nonprofit organization, church, school, or government entity
〰️Provide direct services that support individuals and families within the ALICE population
