McLennan County 9-1-1 Emergency Assistance District Call 9-1-1 for emergencies ONLY! McLennan Co. 9-1-1 Emergency Assistance District is also known as McLennan County 9-1-1, MCEAD or the District.

While the District is not a part of the county government, MCEAD serves the citizens of McLennan County as a political subdivision of the State of Texas. The District was formed through a referendum vote of the citizens of McLennan County in 1987. MCEAD is tasked with the responsibility of routing emergency calls to the most appropriate law enforcement agency through the use of a simple three digi

t telephone number (9-1-1). Before the creation of the 9-1-1 District, McLennan County citizens had to call the local telephone number for the agency needed during an emergency. It was not unusual that the calling party was forced to hang up and dial a different telephone number before emergency services could respond. 9-1-1 began servicing only hard-wired landline telephones. When cellular service appeared, it soon became another device with 9-1-1 dialing capabilities. The latest service added to 9-1-1 is the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone services. McLennan County is currently working toward the implementation of the Next Generation 9-1-1 system. This system will allow texting to 9-1-1, audio and video capabilities and other enhancements to the 9-1-1 system.
