I want to give a shout out to Tim Polk and the Woodward County Juvenile Detention Center- OKCYC and say thank you for the pizzas. Today was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and they got us pizza for lunch. Thank you for the kind gesture.

I’m very proud to recognize Deputy Hunter Zimmerman and Detention Officer Elysia West as the Woodward County Sheriff’s Office employees of the month for November. Both were nominated for being consistent, reliable, and hardworking employees. It’s an honor for me to be able to lead an organization that has this quality of employees. Thank you Hunter and Elysia for the way you serve our community!

The season for giving is upon us. In the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office is a Christmas tree with tags on it similar to the one pictured. It’ll have the name of a child and a gift wish on it. If you feel led to bless a child this Christmas season, please come get a tag, grab a gift for the child, and return it by December 9. Thanks to the Western Plains Youth and Family Services, Inc. for leading such a worthy endeavor. Merry Christmas to you all and may God bless you abundantly!

I’m way behind! 🤦🏼

I need to recognize my October employees of the month. Detention Officer Brent McDonald was recognized by his peers for his great attitude, his hard work, and his reliability. Character traits that are not only important for his position, but that set an example for his peers as well! Thank you Brent!

Deputy Combs (no picture available) was our patrol deputy of the month. Deputy Combs is unique in that he is also a certified EMT. Since law enforcement almost always gets to a scene first, he can start life-saving measures before EMS and Fire arrive. This is such a benefit to our county. Deputy Combs was nominated for pulling an accident victim out of a car and starting CPR while waiting for the ambulance. Unfortunately the victim did not survive, but Deputy Combs worked hard to save him. I’m grateful for Deputy Combs and the skills he brings to the Sheriff’s Office.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am reminded that not everyone will get a Thanksgiving meal. Not everyone has family to share the holidays with. Not everyone will have someone else to fellowship with. If you know someone who might be in such a position in life, please share this flyer with them or encourage them to go to the First Methodist Church, 1111 Downs Avenue, on Thanksgiving Day from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to get a delicious meal. I’m definitely thankful for this community that cares so well for others!

Lt. Dean Pond and Deputy Anthony Byrd are styling in the two new Woodward’s County Sheriff’s Office Tahoes. I gotta admit, they’re pretty slick!

In other news, Deputies Turner and Crossland successfully deployed Stop Sticks a couple of nights ago to safely end a pursuit initiated by Woodward PD near Fort Supply. Bad guy in jail, officers and citizens safe! That’s a win.

Thanks for your support.

It is estimated that Oklahoma over-produces ma*****na 32x more than what is required for medical ma*****na card holders. Youth ma*****na use is on the rise as well. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

The Woodward County Sheriff’s Office was privileged to assist the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics in the ex*****on of a search warrant that shut down an illegal ma*****na grow operation in our county on Thursday. That’s one less grow operation feeding the black market. We’re looking forward to assisting OBN on more of these operations in our county!

I need to correct something that was brought to my attention. The employee we dismissed post-arrest was Francis James Vandermey JR. the “Jr.” matters to distinguish him from others who share the same name. Thank you.
