Hello from the new leadership team in the Woodstock Building Department!

Our goal is to provide accurate information promptly while continuing to fulfill our responsibilities to the public.

Ultimately, our vision is to have a Building Department that is accessible, responsive, professional, and communicative, while maintaining consistent and responsible code enforcement.

Today we offer a brief update on Municipal Searches: As part of our review process, real estate listings, assessment records, tax records, and Building Department records can be compared to identify discrepancies. A significant difference between advertised livable square footage and the square footage shown on tax or assessment records may be a red flag requiring further review.

🎥 Recently, we’ve been broadcasting a few public meetings on YouTube Live, which allows easy access to watch meetings both live and immediately afterwards, without having to deal with Zoom. So far, Woodstock Environmental Commission (WEC) has used this for their past two meetings and the Planning Board just broadcast theirs this way last night.

📷NYSDOT Traffic Count Cameras in Woodstock

You may notice temporary traffic-counting cameras along several roads in Woodstock this week. These cameras are part of the New York State Department of Transportation’s regular traffic-counting program.

NYSDOT periodically collects traffic data on roads across the state for federal reporting, transportation planning, road maintenance, and funding purposes. In the past, they have used tubes to count traffic, but have recently transitioned to cameras, which count the number and types of vehicles traveling on public roads.

The cameras are low-resolution and do not capture identifiable faces or license plate numbers. NYSDOT does not store the images – only traffic count data is kept.

Traffic counters are being used on the following roads:
>>Rt 212 from Wittenberg Rd to Rock City Rd.
>>Rt 212 (Mill Hill Rd) from Rock City Rd to NY 375/W Hurley Rd
>>John Joy Rd from Zena Rd to Saugerties town line
>>Mellert Rd from Zena Rd to the dead end
>>Tannery Brook Rd from Millstream Rd to NY 212

Cameras were placed on Mon 9/14 and will be removed on Fri 9/18.

🎓School has started which means it’s time to pay your school tax bills! School taxes are collected by your school district, NOT the Town of Woodstock.

📬Woodstock residents may receive bills from different school districts, so timing varies. We’ve noticed that Onteora and Saugerties school tax bills generally go out the first of September, while Kingston’s typically show up a couple weeks later (mid-September).

📑Please follow the payment instructions listed on your school tax bill.

>> Pay by check at the Woodstock Bank of Greene County (81 Mill Hill Rd)

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Woodstock Town Board will hold a Public Hearing on:

Tuesday, September 22, 2026
7:00pm at 45 Comeau Drive

The hearing concerns Proposed Local Law No. 2 entitled “A Local Law Amending Chapter 7 (Alarm Systems) of the Code of the Town of Woodstock”.

The Proposed Local Law seeks to update Chapter 7 of the Town Code, originally adopted in 2001, by revising the false alarm fine schedule, establishing a new enforcement framework for water intrusion events, incorporating the alarm company liability authority conferred by General Business Law § 69-vvv, and clarifying the respective roles of Town and fire district personnel in the administration and enforcement of the chapter.

🗣️Members of the public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed law before the Town Board takes final action.

Thank you to Ulster County Comptroller March Gallagher for this moving remembrance.

As we reflect on September 11, we honor the lives lost, the bravery of the first responders, the search-and-rescue dogs who worked tirelessly alongside them, and the enduring strength of the families and communities forever changed by that day. We remember.

Since 2009, 9/11, also known as Patriot's Day, has also been recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This is a day encouraging us to channel the transformative spirit of unity and selflessness that came about after the tragedy of 9/11 by giving back to our communities, whether it’s helping a local pantry like People's Place, mentoring youth at Mentor Me of Ulster County, or supporting local causes through UlsterCorps, The Hudson Valley National Center for Veteran Reintegration, Ulster County SPCA, Ulster Literacy Association, or even your local library, every act of service can be a tribute to those who lost their lives and those who heroically responded.
