The fundamentals matter. But mastery requires knowing when their expression has to change.
During a recent range session with Coach Dennis, I changed the grip I had been developing for nearly two years. The adjustment was unconventional and built around the accumulated injuries of a lifetime of training.
I started shooting better almost immediately.
That experience reinforced an important lesson:
A fundamental is not a frozen shape. It is a principle that must continue functioning when the conditions change.
Bodies change. Environments change. Problems change. Serious practitioners must learn how to adapt without abandoning the principles that make a method work.
That is an important part of the C-Tac standard and the larger pursuit of becoming more capable.
