A little birdie told us that the Class of 2027 was planning a "Senior Skip Day" tomorrow. Just wanted our families to know a few things.
First, this is not a real thing; some people have, in the past, believed that this is school-sponsored event. It isn't. WHS has, time out of mind, pushed for consistent student attendance, so a "Senior Skip Day" is contrary to our priorities.
Second, the effects of this choice could be significant. With a change in some CCSD Board policies, specifically IHA and IHE, missing one more day could have major effects, especially if a senior fails a class required for graduation. The requirements to be able to recover credit are connected not only to grades but to attendance. Missing on a day like tomorrow (still relatively early in the year) could eventually be the tipping point bringing a student to 10 absences. This, in turn, if a class is failed, could turn into Summer School and Summer Graduation. Nobody wants this, so we want everyone to understand the possible outcomes.
