"Stories of the Community," our 250th Anniversary Local History Book is now available for $30.

The books are a compilation of the 12 previously released commemorative booklets. They can be purchased at the following sites:

-Historic Courthouse Museum in Woodstock, (cash and check only), Fridays and Saturdays, 11am-4pm, through Dec. 31st (closed January and February)

-Edinburg Mill, Mon. - Sat. 9:30 am - 5:30 pm; Sun. noon - 5 pm

-Hupps Hill Civil War Museum and Visitors Center, Monday-Sunday, 10AM-4pm

-Travelers Treasures, Woodstock, Monday-Friday 9am-6pm (closed Tuesday), Stat. 10am-6pm, Sun. 12:30-5pm.

Part of Birthday Bash celebration kicking off Shenandoah County's 250th Year was the release of the first booklets in our 250th History Series.

We would like to thank the three authors, pictured below, who authored these first three works:

-Zachary Hottel: "This is Genuine Democracy," Woman's Suffrage in Shenandoah County VA, 1900-1920

-Kathleen Brockway: The Lost Shared Signing Community of Lantz Mills and Shenandoah County, Virginia

-Keith Stickley: Shenandoah County's Newspapers and Their Impact on a Developing Community

100 copies of each booklet are being distributed free of charge, while supplies last, at 250th events. The next three booklets will be released at a special author's event during the Woodstock ArtFest, held on June 25 2022. Stay tuned to our website for more information.

THROWBACK to Mary Wenger of Woodstock Virginia.

Mary was a Phi Beta Kapp graduate of William & Mary, held a MA in Guidance and History from Madison College (now JMU), and taught numerous subjects at the Woodstock High School for over 30 years.

She also created the Bicentennial Pagents for the Town of Woodstock in 1952 and Shenandoah County in 1972.

THROWBACK to this February 26, 1885 postcard from Jas. Wendel of Harrisville to E.D. Newman of Woodstock.

Harrisville Post Office operated from 1874-1906. Today this card is part of our Shenandoah County postmark collection which helps preserve the history of Shenandoah County's local post offices.

Here is a throwback to a ca. 1940 crowd gathering in front of the Courthouse in Woodstock.

Based on the amount of warm clothing and the lighted tree in the background, it most likely was for a Christmas celebration.

However, the people shown and the event they gathered for is unidentified. Can you share who they are before another holiday season is over?
