Just before Noon on Saturday, September 12, the Woodstock Fire Department and neighboring companies were alerted for a structure fire on Ox Road in Woodstock.

Wagon 12 arrived and found a working fire in the laundry area of a condo and began a coordinated interior attack that successfully extinguished the fire with the assistance of the sprinkler system which had slowed fire growth.

Truck 12 assisted Wagon 12 with fire attack and searching the impacted condo for residents who were determined to be safely evacuated. Neighboring departments and Woodstock PD assisted with evacuating neighboring condos.

Thankfully damage was limited due to the sprinkler system, the residents decision to close the apartment door, and quick response by fire personnel.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Last Thursday the Woodstock Fire Department and Shenandoah County's Public Safety community gathered to celebrate our first responders at the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce's annual Valor Awards Ceremony.

WFD volunteers received three awards including Charles Folks (Life Saving Valor Award), Phil Hottel (Volunteer Firefighter of the Year), and a Unit Citation for Wagon and Truck 12.

We will be highlighting these specific awards later this week in more detail.

Congratulations to all who were recognized and thanks to the Chamber for their recognition of our county's First Responders.

Early this morning volunteers of the Woodstock Fire Department and community members gathered at our station to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terror Attacks and the memory of all those who post their lives that day.

A special thank you to Ret. Chief Hadden Culp for sharing his personal experiences from that day and to our organizers for preparing such a special event.

Fair Week is a huge undertaking for our department.

Our volunteer firefighters donated over 450 hours to ensure the thousands of fair attendees could enjoy themselves safely.
