April: the month that can’t quite make up its mind, but somehow still manages to get things done. Is it March showers bring April flowers, or April showers bring May flowers? At this point, we’ve seen enough rain (and enough seasons in a single week) to claim both. But beyond the unpredictable weather, April delivered something far more meaningful: funding that made a real, tangible difference for our clients.

Over $24,000 went out the door (don’t worry, we meant that in the best way) to help residents in Shenandoah, Page, and Warren counties obtain or maintain stable housing. Not too shabby for a month that couldn’t quite decide what season it was.

Behind every dollar was a story, some complicated, some unexpected, all requiring a mix of persistence, creativity, and a little bit of “let’s figure this out as we go.” And somehow, we did.

Take a look at the journeys that landed on our doorstep this month and the hurdles we tackled along the way. As always, thanks for sticking with us, you make this work possible (rain or shine, snow or wind).

One of our many participants who transitioned from temporary housing to permanent housing. The Sibert House offers extensive case management that addresses all barriers to housing stability.

A recent Sibert House resident moved from living in their car to a shelter, and now due to Salvation Army’s funds and assistance this resident has permanent housing. Support from the Salvation Army covered the first month's rent, a security deposit and necessary items needed for housekeeping. The resident extended gratitude for the rapid transition and the chance to rebuild their life in a safe home grateful for the impact of what coordinated shelter can do for people, turning crisis into opportunity.

Today kicks off birthday celebration season at SAS as we celebrate our incredible Housing Counselor, Megan!

Megan, your compassion, dedication, and tireless work helping individuals and families find stability and hope do not go unnoticed. You make a meaningful difference in our community every single day, and we are so grateful to have you on our team.

As we shared last year, one of the best perks of working for Shenandoah Alliance is that the boss makes you a birthday dessert on your birthday! This year, we’ve added something new to the dessert line-up: lemon bars! 🍋 As you can tell by the missing one, they’ve officially passed inspection by the birthday girl.

Join us in wishing Megan a wonderful birthday! 🎂

💐Special Thanks to Farm and Flour Co. for the beautiful flowers!
